It's just been anounced that even though Man u made a £100 million pound profit on their football operation last year, they are now over £80 million pounds deeper in debt than last year!!!! This means that the whole £100 million has been eaten up by interest payments and increased their debt by £80 million.

How much longer can this great club continue to increase its debt before the inevitable happens???????

the sooner one of the big clubs gets hit really hard for their debts - the better. clubs who try to run an efficient business cannot compete on a monetary level with those that are allowed to run up massive debts with no repercussions.

How many smaller clubs have suffered having own a small percentage of that ammount

kav, i dont think we have anything to worry about anymore. If Hicks goes to court and wins, the prospective owners will probably go to the RBS and 'buy' the debt. The bank is only interested in getting its money back, whether that is making a scheduled repayment or paying the whole debt down. Once they own the debt, they can call it in whenever they like, so if Hicks has any sense, he would walk away now otherwise the club will be put into administration and sold to the highest bidder, which i am guessing will be the guy who holds the debt. Its a win win situation for him. Then Liverpool FC will be debt free and able to rebuild, unlike united who have all this to come but on a larger scale. Over £522 million in debt now, god knows what the annual interest is on that!!!!! United have just had their biggest ever operating profit at £100 million, and that was still not enough to reduce the debt. So if they cant make the same amount next year, the debt will be even higher.

Did Gordon Brown have anything to do with managing the club's books??? Sounds like they're being sucked into that same black hole GB created for the UK economy!

but geoff as we keep saying debts ok if you can repay it ....united is a far more attractive purchase globally for some wealthy chap .

so the figure of 1.5billion a figure papers spoke about .

i admit paper talk and wealthy arabs or chinese are different matters .

i do hope liverpool get sorted and back to winning ways .when i grew up they won everything ....

for my mates they are gutted as they are liverpool fans ,but as we know uniteds time will come as fergie goes this year .

as key players like scholes ,giggs ,van der sar retire this year ....so the future isnt that bright now

kav

ps still i would like to see you lot relegated ,lol take care
