It has not been a good week for us here. Our dear friend and neighbour Ann Aliband has returned to UK to nurse her husband Arthur back to health after he suffered a stroke.

Another very dear friend has just died in UK. Gil Bird from Ozankoy fought cancer for almost 3 years but sadly passedaway on Wednesday. Her husband Barry intends to return to Ozankoy after her funeral.

Lets hope that bad news does not come in bunches of 3.

It's an unfortunate characteristic of an ex-pat population made up largely of retired folk... It's very sad to lose friends.

I guess it's like this in English sea-side retirement locations too... just with better weather.

Not trying to be insensitive but these things happen in life and posting it on here whilst I am sure you are only trying to make people aware of the sad losses is in fact only making other peoples weeks worse.

Just my impression but I would rather not be reminded of friends that I have lost, just me maybe.

I am now retired, but my career entailed a huge amount of flying, I flew nearly 2 million miles. I used to be pleased, in a selfish way, when I read about plane crashes since mathematically each one meant I had a better chance of survival. Same with growing old, you see more and more friends passing away, but each one means you are still here. When people pass away, family or friends, we should not be too sad. After short term grief we should celebrate their lives.

I hope that makes some sense (?)

Vince sorry to hear that you and Mary are having a sad time at the moment.

The thing is with early detection a lot of cancers can be cured regular check ups can show High Blood Pressure and treat it thus preventing stroke. Obviously too late for your friends unfortunately. This is the reason for the Women's and Men's health weeks.

To some of you I may come across as being mercenary jumping on this thread to advertise the Men's Health week but it could prevent or detect these conditions before it is too late!

It's not too late to book your appointment just e-mail me on trnchealthcare@gmail.com or phone on 0533 884 5621 You only have one life so look after it.

My old classmate developed a very rare type of prostate cancer. He had an operation and yet the future is bleak. He had to suspend the subsequent treatment because he had wounds all over his body.

I had always relied on PSA checks but apparently his PSA was just over 3.0, well below the maximum. I had prostate biopsy twice before with negative results but I am taking no chances and went for a full checkup recently.

Ismet, keep on having the checkups. I was lucky, mine was caught, and my PSA has never been over 6.

Now down to 0.77, let's hope it stays that way!
