That happened to me I also get # instead of a pound sign. It was suggested to me that it is an American arrangement of the keys - but unfortunately I don't know how to change it

After reformatting the hard drive, windows boots up for the first time and there are options you must choose to set it up. One option refers to the keyboard. You are asked to choose between US and UK keyboard as the default - did you choose UK keyboard?

In Windows XP: To change from US to UK keyboard: Go into Control Panel Click Regional and Language Options Click Languages click Details this gives you the Settings box Under installed Services you can set the English Keyboard as default

A language teacher was explaining to her class that in French, nouns unlike their English counterparts, are grammatically designated as masculine or feminine. "House" in French, is feminine -"la maison," "Pencil" in French, is masculine "le crayon." One puzzled student asked, "What gender is computer?" The teacher did not know, and the word was not in her French dictionary. So for fun she split the class into two groups appropriately enough, by gender and asked them to decide whether "computer" should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Both groups were required to give four reasons for their recommendation. The men's group decided that computer should definitely be of the feminine gender ("la computer"), because No one but their creator understands their internal logic The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later review As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheque on accessories for it. The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be masculine "le computer") because: In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem As soon as you commit to one, you realise that if you had waited a little longer you could have gotten a better model. I know it doesn't solve your problem, but it may make you smile !

Funny, but b*ll. The French don't use "computer" - they use l'ordinateur. In France, by law, it's not allowed to use an English/American word if there is an official French word. The law is from the time of the rule of President Charles de Gaulle (exiled General during the 2nd World War) and later the President who was against America, the UK, the NATO and what have you.
