hoping to go to famagusta tomorrow. can anyone recommend any good local places to eat in the walled city? also we did a tour last year taking in othellos gate and salamis and had about an hour in town centre. so just going to have a leisurely walk round centre and see what we missed last time. anything we should definitely try and see in the area? thinking of driving via akdogan and turkmenkoy as have never been in that area. is there much to see? last question!! -went to palm beach hotel and would like to see more of varosha. does the road to border run alongside?

Enter the small gate house and turn immediate right and then park up about 200 yards later looking for a grotty looking cafe/restaurant on your left, opposite the City wall. They specialise in excellent Kleftiko and are licenced. Failing that email Ismet (Elko 2). Richard

There's a church actually IN Varosha. To get there, drive past the entrance to the walled city. Turn right at the T junction at the end of the road (Left takes you to the port and back into the walled city). A few hindred yards, bear right away from the coast road, and a few hundred yards further on you'll reach the security gate. Park in that area, and, if the church is opon, which it is only if there is somebody to supervise it, you'll be allowed in. You'll need photo ID as it's in a security area. Follow the link for more information. http://whatson-northcyprus.com/interest/famagusta/famagusta/icon_museum.htm and about Varosha, here http://whatson-northcyprus.com/interest/famagusta/famagusta/varosha.htm Regarding eats, there are several in the centre of the walled city in Namik Kemal square. And from there head towards the sea, and at the end of the road you'll come across the best Turkish Delight shop on the island.

had a good day in famagusta. Only disappointment was that the church was closed. Knew there was a possibility - will save it for another visit. Went down to beach and viewed varosha from there. Last time we went we went through palm beach hotel. Now its gutted and presume being refitted. Had excellent meal at DBs - recommend the beef casserole. I rarely buy turkish delight but if i do i get it from market in lefkosa. We got some from place recommended on this board and it is just as good if not better.
