Why nbot pop into some of the local travel agents for blurb on the places, as well as discovering who may have been.

Have been to Cappadocia - not for xmas - but have to say it is the most amazing, unique place. The fairy chimneys are something else....and the cave hotels, ....are not really caves as we know them, but boutique hotels, and again, very special, the like of which you won't see anywhere else......but, as I said, not sure what it would be like in December. If you can do it....then the balloon trip over the fairy chimneys is the thing.

I went to Jordan for a week last year (not at Xmas) and had an absolutely fantastic time. Petra is out of this world and no amount of pictures prepares you for walking out of the gorge and coming face to face with the treasury building, it made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.

Wadi Rum is also a must see, walking in the footprints of Lawrence of Arabia etc etc. The scenery is truly amazing.

We based ourselves in Amman and spent the week travelling around the country.

Thoroughly recommended.

i agree with Paul - we went over New Year, did all the castles and ruins north of Amman and the Dead Sea and then went south to Petra (in the days when you could ride through - which we did ) and then to Wadi rhum etc. Great holiday. Sat and drank Israeli wine for New Years Eve in Amman!!!
