Chris, I can honestly say that writing like this is the hardest language to write, there is no real system, you just write it how it sounds and hope it makes sense at the other end.

There is a guy who writes for the Aberdeen Press and Journal in Doric and I can spend ages just trying to decypher what he has written because he also uses alot more Doric words than I can remember.

ah jist canna be scunnered wi thon noo, oar ahl fur it.

I'd send all you 'idiots' to the south, South Island of NZ to Dunedin or Invercargill were in their walled Cities not even the Maori's could understand the lingo and fled in fear. The climate is fantastic to remind you of home; cold, wet, miserable & grey with architecture to suit with, of course, a mutual language which you can while away the day drinking Wilson's NZ Whisky in bliss!

By the way, what is that makes us idiots in your eyes, can you speak maori ? If you were to speak Maori and English would it make you an idiot ?

Msg 16 proger1 Well spoken and thanks

Msg 15Brinsley Does using the Scots vernacular to have a bit of fun and entertainment whilst I am feeling a little homesick equate to me (and other posts ) 'idiots' ? - not in my books. As for the rest of your comments - well they don't even merit a reply in Scots or my second language. ;O((-

Msg 16 & 17

It was a bloody joke post! I've nothing against the Scots! But true, the very southern part of NZ still speak with a Scots accent to this very day, 6 generations down the track!

Richard, I did take it as a joke but I still wondered why you chose idiots, never mind, we are a stubborn race.

Have you never noticed in bars and even in the movies, they give the toughest guys scottish accents because they think it sounds scarey, ironically it has been done to me on a few occassions, because I normally speak quite englafied I have had other scots boost up the jock accent when they want to intimidate me, I am afraid to say it has one of two affects, I either pee myself laughing or put on my own hardman accent and watch the strange look in the eyes of my enemy, it can be lots of fun really.

In this case Richard a different word would have been preferable but not to worry, we vcan come up with all sorts of names for you and you would have no idea if they even exist bampot
