Hi guys, I need to MOT my scooter (125cc) this month, anyone paid for one recently, if so much? Also any recommendations as to where I can get it serviced while I'm in for the MOT? I live in Esentepe and will be riding in to Kyrenia to get the MOT, many thanks!

Mot'd our scooter last week. Would suggest you try the 'bike shop in centre of Girne and down the side of the Turk Bankasi in the square for a service and parts.

MOT cost about 40TL as I recall, paid at the office behind the Hospital/Kaylamluk in Girne and then I rode up to the police compound near the Lefkosa roundabout/Starling with my receipt and insurance, road tax etc and they checked the scooter over. Lights, brakes, tyres condition etc, took about 5 minutes. Longest bit was getting the paperwork signed, that took 40 minutes.

Cheers Rick,

As thorough as the car test then! Have you used the bike shop in town, if so any idea of the cost for a basic service?

Sorry coffer, but I don't know the cost of the service I just buy the bits and do it myself. Honda's are easy and a new plug and good quality oil costs 40TL. It's then about a 1/2 hour job.

In my limited experience of buying a scooter out here is best to keep an eye on this forum and its For Sale pages, but be aware of the make, type and history of any machine. There are some very dodgy machines out there that need more than a good look over and road test. Caveat Emptor.

I bought my second hand Honda from the official dealers in Lefkosa. Expensive compared to UK, but then so is everything that attracts Tax and Duty here in TRNC. The dealer was very helpful before and after the sale and all paperwork was sorted, no mean feat for an ex-pat.

A neighbour bought a similar machine from a 'local' after a bit of haggling and it's a nice little run around that needed TLC and a good service and should now go on to give few more years of service if maintained properly. The paperwork has yet to be sorted................

Sorry forgot to ask, for a scooter, do you need an emissions test certificate to get an MOT?
