Hello !

I am french , I bought a house in Kyrenia six years ago . The title deed is ready but I must wait for the permission to buy , as far as I am a foreigner... My sollicitor says that we are thousands in the same situation in North Cyprus . Is it true ? He says that it is the turkish army which delivers only five or six permissions a year and according to that speed , we could wait for long !!

Do you have any comment ?

thats nonsense .

i waited 2years 3 months for permission to come through .

a delay maybe because he hasnt applied for it .

or that it is next to military land ,then i would think you would have had permission denied .

At least you would have heard .

have you asked for the number when you apply ,may be you could try and ring the department yourself?

Ask your lawyer for your permission to purchase reference number, the reference also includes the year, so you can see when they applied for it. Go to the interior ministry in Nicosia and they will be able to tell you what the status is of your permission to purchase application, they are very helpful.

When you say it is Turkish title land, do you mean pre-74 Turkish title? When the kocans are issued, the government now makes no difference between titles and they are all classified as Turkish title on the kocans. Many believe that PTP are not being issued on pre-74 title, so it will be interesting to see if you receive it. We got our PTP after 2 years 10 months and we believe we have got our kocan on pre-74 title, although this is not obvious on the document.

I am not a specialist of all these subtleties... I just know that the land was the property of an old turkish cypriot from a long time , a turkish cypriot whose the son got as well a house on a parcel of that land . A turkish cypriot constructor had bought that land and built nine villas in 2004 . Most of the buyers are turkish cypriot but they got there title deeds only last spring 2010 , because the constructor had all his bank accounts blocked after a difficult divorce . Now everything is clear from that side and maybe I will get my permission to purchase one day ...! Maybe they start examining the file only when the title deed is ready ?

'Frenchman'/msg 13:

You do not have to be close to a military base this is only part of the story, it can be close to a villa where a Turkish or TC officer lives or any area that can be considered to be of military value.

Sloan, if you want to check/confirm your title go to the land office in Nicosia. The plot numbers are the same as are the village maps. You can get a copy from them at just over a euro i think. It is all checkable because they have the village books from pre 1974. Then keep it safe with your kochan as proof of what you have!

Thanks, Blade. I have been told that before. I need to find out where the Land Office is in Nicosia and take a trip over when we get back in November.
