| "From an early age it was obvious how smart he was. He was very good at maths and hardly ever studied, he just got things from class" Cypriot attitude to education has not changed much over the years..... |

| First of all I am very glad that someone from Cyprus won such a prestigious prize, it is a pride and also an encouragement for all of us. ""From an early age it was obvious how smart he was. He was very good at maths and hardly ever studied, he just got things from class" This is a clear sign of being a talented student. However, most parents expect their children to study hard and get high marks. Cypriots are just as guilty in this respect. I am not one of those and I do not like when papers have the names and pictures of those students who get top marks at university entrance exams or so on. Getting 99 or 98 out of 100 means that they have a very good memory but it does not mean that they really understand the subject properly. I never cared for high marks as long as I passed. ismet |
