Good morning all. We are planning on getting married in Northern Cyprus in 2012 but i was thinking it is probably time to start booking things if its anything like the UK. We really want to get married up at Bellapis Abbey. Was wondering if anyone can give any help on who do i need to contact to book the venue. I am aware of all of the wedding planners but due to financail restraints we want to do as much of it as possible on our own. So if anyone has any recommendations we would appreciate it. If you are having a small intimate wedding I can recommend us at Hoots Bar/ Restaurant, situated in Illgaz village (Alsancak area in the mountains). An old Cypriot building in a beautiful garden setting with roof top terrace with fantastic sea and mountain views. Competative rates on catering. Look to the advert at top of the page Christabella - Vashti is the best planner on the island and if you read her testimonials you'll also see that she's worth every penny.



I think you'll also find that planners get discounts so little extra cost for you and you also get the peace of mind!!!

Our son was married at Belapais Abbey in 2008 and we did all the planning ourselves, flowers, photographer, etc and the hotel venue - the Ada - was magnificent with the sunset across the sea. I see that you are in Kyrenia area so maybe you possibly have some "local" friends who can help you if you don't want the expense of a wedding planner. As TRNC is not recognised as such by the rest of the world, can you get married here and have a certificate that's seen as valid worldwide, or is it actually a blessing that you receive?



I'm interested in finally tying the knot, but I've heard that it's a minefield out here with all the paperwork that's involved. Can anyone give me any direction on where to start with this?



Also, I'm Christian, hubby (to be!) is Muslim. Will both mosque and church marry us?

yes pippie you can have a legal wedding at st Andrews church a few forms to fill in go down to the church give a date then you have to go across the border to the munisapality office,then back to the church with the stamped form (but tell her across the border that you came in via larnaca or she can give you problems,Howeverthats all you need to do. Hi St. George, as far as we're concerned we are married - in the eyes of God anyway. We've expressed vows to each other 'the muslim way' but we'd like to make it official - he wants it in a mosque under the guidance of an imam and I'd like the church thing! We're a complicated couple!!

Hi thanks guys for all you advise. I dont actually live out here but my soon to be inlaws live in Ozankoy so we go over to them quite alot.

I was over on holiday in Aug and went up the Abbey where a wedding was taking place and i met Vashti. But i thought that wedding planners would be very costly. But will e-mail and see what they actually charge.

The Ada Hotel - near the monument on the main road Alsancak, is a beautiful hotel overlooking the sea with decking area and beautiful sunsets, and does excellent wedding packages. It is far cheaper to plan your own wedding but using a planner can make it so much easier. If you need a D.J. My partner Pete has played at many weddings this year and has taken bookings for next year already. he has an excellent reputation and has been a D.J. for over 30 years. Good luck

Do your in laws speak English? If so I would be happy to visit them and share what I know. (Not a lot, but enough).

You say your husba dis Moslem, but is he Turkish Cypriot? If so, he will need a blood test, but if Turkish, he cannot marryhere.

As to St.A's it is best to fly in via Larnaca and then do what is said above. As to the Mosque, getyour in laws to tal,k to the localo Imam.

But you can have a kaymakan ceremony (which IS recognised anywhere in the world). A bit of paper work is required, but if you are in U.K, then it is not quite as bad as doing it form here. You can certainly book the kybele direct. They are certainly the most popular venue.

What is said about Vashti is true. She gives excellent service, but could I suggest that you don';t pick her brains and then go off independently. find out her charges and decide if you can afford them, and she will guide you through everything, but if you do not feel you can afford her, then I am happy to share my bit of knowle

Must just add that full information on how to get wed here are available on the web. Take a look at 'North Cyprus Weddings' and you find a choice of several wedding planners, some of which give ALL the details and even a form to download regarding the legal aspect.



And going back to Church weddings here, I heard that not only must you fly in to the south but you must have a priest from the south. Price varies according to which churc\h. The Roman Catholic church asks for a donation whereas St.Andrews has a set fee.



All the answers are there. And DON'T listen to any of the negative comments - more and more people are coming here to get wed and have a real day to remember. Go for it!

we were married in 2009 at bellapais. We used carol at north Cyprus weddings and I really can't recommend her enough.



If you opt for a basic package it shouldn't be too expensive, you can always add to it later.



We spend quite a lot of time in n Cyprus and know how things work but we really couldn't have organised our wedding without carol. Plus, you do get a lot of inside information and discounts.

It is good that folk lik eyou are still 'advertising'; this place as someone wrote in this week's Cyprus Today that they went to a Wedding Fair in U.K and of course were told it was a no'no in North Cyprus . I guess the stall was a South Cyprus one.



But Caro,l is off to lots of wedding fairs in U.K and I am sure wil put that one right.

Ouch. That's a tough one. How luxurious do you want it? Lots like Malpas. Others like Mercure, but do uyou want big, small, in our out of town. Of course there is also Bellapais places. Just what level do you want?

I will be attending several wedding fairs over the next few weeks, maybe we can meet up? I am in the UK now. You must get the paperwork correct and then your wedding will be legal anywhere in the World. I read with horror in Cyprus Today that some poor Bride to be went to a UK wedding fair and asked on a Cypriot stand about weddings. She was told that Bellapais does not exist and that weddings in Northern Cyprus were illegal, rubbish! Does that mean that if I die in Northern Cyprus, my death will not be legal???? Biggles is right - these horrible false stories put about by misinformed and ill-informed people do nothing to instill confidence or trust in the totally legal aspects of Northern Cyprus, and indeed do nothing for national relationships, but hundreds of happy couples know their marriage is legal, and as biggles said ' you must get the paper work done correctly.



Now a lawyer in U.K is trying to tell someone that their divorce out here is not legal and they have to pay out all over again in U.K before they can re-marry!



But trust biggles and people like her who are happy to guide you, and ensure that you do the paper work and have the wedding of your dreams. As to your honeymoon, I think anywhere here will treat you as special - it just depends where and how many stars. Shame you can't sleep on the beachand havde a hotel of a thousand stars! But they don't do breakfast in bed!

Lots of nice places to stay lots of planners - don't just go on price but you can still keep to a good budget if you want to.



In two years a lot can change (hotels change management, likewise planners can change hands or style) so don't put any money down just yet. Take your time try any of the above but seeing Tom's comment in message 26 (we know he can be trusted) try his suggestion first.

Valid point Cyprusquest. Possibly booking two years in advance could see a change in some of the arrangements,but that is where the good wedding planners come into their own. They are in front of it.



And let's face it, you gotta trust Tom! Haven't you? But I also expect Tom knows just about ALL the planners, and they surely all offer good, careful, caring services and maybe finding a wedding planner is like looking for a psychiatrist - find one you feel you can trust and are happy with.



Just hope that Christabella is not now confused, but feels she has more than enough info to go ahead and arrange the wedding of her dreams. As Tom says - congrats on making the right decision 'to get married'!

Eve msg 28 - Thanks for the ego boost but I don't know many of the wedding planners on the island let alone all of them but I do know Teresa who is the guiding light behind http://www.north-cyprus-weddings.com and I know she works with Marion on blessings.

Both ladies certainly fit into my description and they will give the benefit of their experience (most often free, if not for a reasonable fee). I can't speak about the others.

I do like your view on finding the right planner for the betrothed (like for holidays) it is so hard that you will probably need a psychiatrist at the end of it.



By the way according to a recent survey "almost half of people (47%) want to get married abroad to avoid distant relatives and unwanted acquaintances”. - Christine I hope that is not you but that you want a delightful location in friendly North Cyprus among friends and at a sensible price.

Rocks hotel is a lovely hotel to stay in for the honeymoon they have a lovely suite and so does the colony, if you contact http://www.angelic-events.com they get some really good deals with these 2 hotels for honeymoon suites.
