| Hi Kimbo just look up,( the Man in Seat Sixt-One ) the most interesting train journey's from all over the world just look down and click Turkey it takes you to a page London to Turkey the map gives you two alternative ways to get to Turkey from London , you get to istanbul ok but from that point on I think the only way is Bus from istanbul to Mersin and ferry over, or get a ferry to NC from Istanbul, I think the bus takes around 14hrs to Aydin and 10 hrs to Mersin but the Bus is very comfortable, they serve coffee and snacks, and stop every 3 hrs or so to freshen up and have something to eat, I wen't everywhere in Turkey by bus, and cheap as chips, hope this helps, but it's a long journey to take. | Kimbo, Good luck with your journey but please remember that DVTs are caused by being sedentary, so while travelling on the train do the normal leg exercises you would do on a plane and get up and walk around at least once hourly. Bon Voyage ! |

Aussiejock..is the bus company still called KKCC?? If it is we used to refer to it as the Kamacazi Coach Company because of the way drove and the number of accidents they used to have....

Hi Coachie no they are great bus's all mercs, two drivers and two attendants,we went everywhere in Turkey by bus, trains are not very good over there, when you get to Istanbul bus depot you wouldn't believe the size of it, a bus will leave for every part of Turkey every hour or so, there must be 60 differen't bus companies maybe more and around 30 cafe's and restaurant's spread all over the depot, loved the atmosphere, the hustle and bustle of so many travellers and traders, and everyone so helpfull, Robert

When you reach Istanbul from London you need to get to the asian side where the train station is, and then catch a sleeper to Konya or Adana and from there to Mercin, The price is really cheap from Istanbul and you can book on line now. As the earlier posting mentioned look on the web site The man in seat sixty one it is the best for advice and booking details inc the prices.

The problem might be, that when you reach TRNC, if you've a dispute with your builder, or any other local, you might find yourself travelling on the 'Midnight Express'!

Hi Kimbo, If you do travel by train to Istanbul, then a short flight from there to The TRNC shouldn't really be a problem, and save you a bit of time. "Long journeys by plane, train, etc may cause a slightly increased risk." Here's a link... http://www.patient.co.uk/health/Deep-Vein-Thrombosis.htm Good luck, Navek

Hi Parkview, At the time of ash clouds on Europe I wanted to return to TRNC, and my research got me to a very good site called "seat 61". It would help to have a look at: http://www.seat61.com/Europe.htm Regards Mac

If it is any help, my beloved has had three DVT's (one reason why we are here, cos he can't fly too tar - long story, so don't really ask), BUT when he wants to go to U.K (and he has about 5 times) the doctor gives him injections (Warfarin or a similar substance)for 5 days before leaving, then some more on landing and a repeat the other way round. So far no further problems. It does thin the blood and bit and if he bangs himself he has a huge purple bruise, but, why don't you have a word with a doctor there in U.K as to the feasibility of taking the plane journey. It IS a long time to be sitting in trains and buses, so you could be worse off in some senses. Good luck with finding the answer.
