Mark has just spent the best part of an hour taking control of my computer to install a UK VPN, to be used mostly for sport coverage on Turkish TV but now able to listen to English commentary on the radio via my computer.

Cheers Mark and well done!

No probs, Big guy ...

I must say that your connection SUCKS .. big time.... Again.. how DO you guys put up with it? ... respect ... sometimes 15 times trying to get through to our serrvers

Now I gather you were with Nethouse and are now with Extend.. and neither seem to be that good ... this makes me wonder ... without giving too much away.. are there other folk in the locale who have the same probs?

I have now encountered two members who's internet SUCKS and yet have seen others who's connection surprised me with stability .. it clearly seems to be where you live...

Nothing like being in Tokyo though. I downloaded two full length films from my hotel room in ten minutes. I calculated the download speed to be near 20 Mb per second.

Good morning, Ismet

wherever you go try

One should check the ping response times times - do the test once a week - and save the results - and then if there is a problem with your internet - you can show your ISP - in a spreadsheet that they can't argue about !

BTW at home we now get 17.5 down with SKY.. and the BT feed is half that - down a phone line to the same house !

Question 15:

The ping test gives a good idea of available bandwidth - i.e. the lower the figure, the better

Here's a specific ping test..:

http://www.pingtest.net/

What is Pingtest.net?

Use Pingtest.net to determine the quality of your broadband Internet connection. Streaming media, voice, video communications, and online gaming require more than just raw speed. Test your connection now to get your Pingtest.net rating and share the result with others!

I just got 30ms, 0% packet loss, and 1ms jitter - my connection rated A

Hi satranc

Not good..

Keep testing - making sure you have temporarily turned off SKYPE, any downloads, etc., - at the same times of day - say, four times a day - and you can then compare notes with other folks local to you..

Then you will have a concrete picture of WHO is the best / worst ISP in your area..

Thanks Mark, I agree it would be very helpful to folk to get a complete picture of the best/worst ISP in a particular area so hopefully others will follow suit as you suggest and post their results.
