My husband is A+ and is willing to donate, we were going to go to Lambousa next Saturday but as this is an emergency he will do so asap. We do give regularly and wonder if there is an age limit for the donor as I know my husband is too old to give for platelets. Have no idea where this hospital is so if he is needed will ring the given numbers.

I shall explain the grouping of blood for you, in order that you may fully understand.

A blood group or blood type is based on the presence or absence of two proteins (A, B) on the surface of red blood cells. Because two proteins are involved, there are four possible combinations or blood types (ABO groups):

Type A - Only the A protein is present.

Type B - Only the B protein is present.

Type AB - Both proteins are present.

Type O - Neither protein is present

In addition to the A and B proteins, there is another protein involved called the Rh factor (Rh for Rhesus monkey, where it was first identified). The Rh factor is either present (+) or absent (-). Therefore, blood types are described as the type and Rh factor (such as O+, A+, AB-).

Type O- is called the universal donor because it can be given to anybody; it has no protein to cause clumps. Type AB+ is the universal receiver because the recipient has all of the proteins and so will not form clumps.

With regard to the r

Type AB+ is the universal receiver because the recipient has all of the proteins and so will not form clumps.

With regard to the rarity of your blood, you do not have the rarest blood type, which is AB Rh -, but you are at the top of the lower four types, found in about 6% of the population. I give a rough percentage scale to the blood types in the population -

O+ 38 percent of population

A+ 34 percent of population

B+ 9 percent of population

O- 7 percent of population

A- 6 percent of population

AB+3 percent of population

B- 2 percent of population

AB- 1 percent of population

It is always a good policy to keep details of your blood group, allergies and any specific medication that you are taking, on your person, in the event of your being rendered unconscious and/or being unable to impart this information to the medical personnel who may be attending you

I have just returned from the hospital and unfortunately they were unable to take any blood from me because they could not get into my veins. Two UN soldiers were there to help with blood and I understand that 4 doners were found through the Ladies in Red. My prayers are with this man and his family.

To bring this back to the top and explain to Scoty and others.

The making of Sticky threads is something only Izzet can do. He falsifies the date in the first post of the thread to a future date, thus ensuring that the thread which is sorted by date and time of the latest posting stays on top.

I hope that the appeal is successful

Mrs Snakes - well done - a very quick response from you, both going to the hospital and also for keeping people up to date with the situation.

Scoty, Just as a heads up, Stickys are great for a 1 time read, after that you expect it to be at the top so it doesn't jump out at you as much as a post that keeps getting added to, just check the view numbers on a sticky about a subject and compare it to a subject that keeps getting brought back as a latest comment.

IMO the BTT system works much better than a stcky if you want constant viewing because you need to open it to see what has been added.

I remember that there were at least 11 potential aneg donors in the database nurseawful and I started some time ago. I've given all data to the BRS - have you called with Mrs Carol (05338451911) or mrs Prue Lundye (05428551114)?

Scoty, therein lies the problem with stickys, there are over 10,400 registered menbers, if exen 10% only are active that means over 1000 contributors who have differing opinions of what is a "real topic".

My opinion, stick to what works and stop complaining about them not being what you want them to be, it isn't going to grant you any favours with the mods so even if they could get something done they just might not to spite you.

I think whoever (I am guessing Harold) added the [HIGH PRIORITY] has done better than making it a sticky and the BTT's including our little conflab are working better.

Hi Message 43

You may be able to confirm if what I heard recenctly is correct.

If a group of at least 10 donors give a blood donation of any type to Girne hospital they will give the equivelant of the correct type to the person in need.

may not be true but if it is I'm sure there would be 10 willing donors on here.

Annie, Yes this is correct but only works if the blood bank have the proper blood group to release / swap.

And as far as I know it has to be the blood bank at Lefkosa state hospital.

Furthermore did you know that if you are in one of the private hospitals that you have to pay 50 tl per unit for the blood to Lefkosa Hospital!!!
