I'm visiting a friend in Ankara next month whose wife gave birth to their first child this January and thought of a teddy bear present for their boy child. Having no idea about these matters, where, what shops should I try in Girne?

Panco childrens shop on the main road through town as if you were going from Lefkosa roundabout to HSBC.

You could also try Aksoy - if coming from the centre of Girne, turn left at the roundabout with the (old) water fountain and you'll see it a couple of hundred meters on the right hand side, usually with a lot of kids bicycles lined up outside. Good luck on your quest!

Brinsley, I thought you would have gone down to the woods today (with Bazooka) to give the Teddy Bear's picnic a great surprise by capturing one ! Seriously though, as the source of many goods here are of dubious origin you may wish to give the Teddy Bear a good hug and inspection to satisfy yourself that there is no danger in the materials and stuffing or perhaps plastic eyes on the end of sharp needles etc. as even in UK many toys fail to meet the rigorous health and safety rules.

I had one { lambs , elephants or teddy bear } sent recently to a friend . It arrived beautifully gift wrapped with the appropriately coloured ribbon along with adoption papers etc . The quality was excellent will definitely use them again . Let me know if you are interested , i can give you the details .

I saw some really lovely ones at All Occasions. There were the grey fluffy ones...can't remember the name, but they are super popular in the UK.

Tatty Teds and a good selection of other bears, all sizes, and colours can be found at All Occasions Party shop, opposite Lemar in Karaoglanoglu.

Also good selection of cards and balloons for the arrival of a new baby.

Wednesday market, Girne, 10" high cuddly blue (boy?) teddy with a press stomach giggling sound. No buttons, sewn on eyes or wires I could detect for the princely sum of 10TL.

Baby's!
