During my weekly visit to Girne while returning to the main car park I decided to use the public toilets. On decending the steps I was taken aback at the sign for 1.50ytl to pee. Is this the most expensive toilet ever and do the brits really pay this amount which in sterling amounts to 65p. Have not used these toilets for a while but the last time noticed that the locals enter for free so are we brits being made a fool of again. By the way I about turned on the steps and waited until I returned home as I refuse to pay this amount. Would appreciate feedback.

Yes happyharry, I too found it very expensive, as the last time I visited this toilet it was 1 lira , went there again in May it had gone up to 1.50 lira, I asked the assistant why it had gone up another 50cc his reply was the Gerni Bel sets the rates! But what got me was an English woman came in and said oh isnt this cheap!! What, I said, she then said in GB she pays 20p, I then explained that 1.50 was nearly a thirrd of a pound, she just shrugged and said oh well never mind!.....

Considering the attitude TC's have with litter and rubbish I'm surprised they haven't adopted the French mentality of when caught short, any bush, tree or wall will do! Richard

Oh my giddy aunt, we have reached the point of winging about paying to use public toilets, I really do despair with some of you. Are your lives really so dull that you need to inform people about the cost of using a toilet, no, sorry, please don't answer that. please just don't

If we were headbutting each other at the urinals we would have probably done it because we just pee'd on each others shoes. I got arrested for walking through the roads at the institute when skiving school with a friend. We had to pick a day after some pair of young boys about our age had smashed a car window in the car park and stolen a portable cassette player and a jacket I think it was. We were not charged because a witness confirmed that we weren't the boys but I still got my ass kicked for skiving school when I got dragged back to Bankhead and then when they called home. Six of the best and a severe head slapping for being proved innocent of the crime, I will always ponder on that one.

We are not stupid, we know fees are to cover cleaning, toilet paper ,soap etc, For the quality and cleanliness in the Girne bogs, 1.5 ytl is expensive. Try public toilets in Berlin, 60pence , immaculate, |

In Turkey I thought they were run by the mafia, not a bad earner if you can get it, get a busy toilet in the centre or any large bus depot and say you get around 500 people a day $1.50 = $750.00 a day per week = $5250.00 it's not a bad earner, wish I could own one, but I'm not knocking the fee I really dont care what it cost, when you want to go, you go. But wish I owned 3 or 4, and only have to pay out a wage each week. Robert

If 1.5 lira brings out the tight arse mentality then save yourself mental anguish by having a vindaloo curry and beer before the visit.
