Many expats have crossed the Buffer Zone to the South and saw the front of Ledra Palace Hotel at their right hand. But few have seen the back of Ledra Palace Hotel, where (British) officers and soldiers enter the building where they "camp". At the moment the British contingent in Sector 2 of the Buffer Zone is of "7 Regiment RLC" and maybe some C44 member(s) served with this regiment? Then you must remember what you see on this picture, taken from the outside "officer's club", next to the entrance...

Hi Hans,

I did 18 months based at UN HQ in Nicosia Airport from July 1997 to the end of 1998.

I was a frequent visitor to Sector 2 HQ in Ledra Palace and attended a few medal parades and other events there. many UN people used the car park in the hotel while visiting down town both North and South.

The best kept secret in Sector 2 is the travel department where you can book trips from Cyprus all around the middle east for a fraction of the cost from a travel agent. The hotel deals in Cyprus, Israel, Egypt, Syria, and Jordan were incredible with rates as little as 10% of the normal 'tourist' rate. Maybe some 'old sweats' could check it out to see if they can still qualify?

Ledra Palace and the old city Buffer Zone are truly amazing places. Thanks for the photos.
