I am hoping to buy a house in NC in the near future and have read that it is necessary to obtain a Permission to Purchase in NC. Apparently this is obtainable in Nicosia and takes several days - so people currently living and working in the UK have to appoint, and pay for, a proxy to do all the leg work. Does anyone know if it is possible to get this Permission document from the Turkish Embassy in London or by some other means?

It takes years to get your permission to buy, suggest you investigate some more before you commit yourself to spending any money

You might want to wait a month or so until after the settlement negotiations. A reunified Cyprus will mean the TRNC will no longer exists and the whole island will be in the EU - meaning purchasers can tell the Turkish army to stick it over permission to buy.

Am I correct in assuming that most people buy before they have obtained this Permission?

Geoff msg 6, I'm not saying Cyprus will be reunified in a couple of months. But I think by then we should all know whether it will be happening this time. Hence my advice to the poster.

yes Neil they do. I was lucky it only took 2 years now another 2 to split the Kocan as it is into the 8 plots on our develpement before I get my Kocan (deeds). You need a police check from the country in which you live. There are plenty of details elsewhere on this forum on how to get this. When you buy your solicitor should apply for PTP for you. Are you looking at completed properies? This approach could save you a lot of aggravation, time and money. Pte Pike's 2 months for reunification maybe preceeded by a formation of flying pigs!!

Yes, most people do. We have lived over here for three years, and we still can't get our permission. Not been refused, just not sorted yet. Whenever we phone the office we are told it is with the military. Only eight houses on our site and six have their permissions. Think they have lost ours and our neighbours.

Thanks for all the info. Yes, we are looking to purchase an already completed property - it is a resale - does this make it easier to get the PTP?

Neil27 Short answer is 'no'. Strongly advise you to research more on this and/or other NC forums. See http://www.hbpg-trnc.net Martin

Yes please look at the Homebuyers Pressure Group website http://www.hbpg-trnc.net . It has got a lot of very useful information. If you are in TRNC come along to the HBPG surgery on Tuesdays 12pm-3pm at the Pia Bella hotel. Sibel

PtePike I know what you were trying to say..unfortunately people may have read it too quickly. Perhaps you should have started your sentence " If and when there is a settlement" Jim.
