I appreciate that this is Izzet's board and the decision as to who should be a mod is HIS. BUT I wonder if he might consider that the forum might need some member input. In MY opinion we have mod who is FAR too quick to close threads and doesn't even bother to list a reason As a consequence I offer myself to be a mod and hope if approved I can help ensure the board runs smoothly and members who don't post so much will return Let me make it clear - if such an election WAS permitted .. and hopefully other's might have their name put forward, I would ask Izzet to consider the mods, and he, be allowed to remove a mod who's even-handedness is 'questionable' I don't WANT to get banned.. ( again!) but someone needs to say it...

Mark I am in agreement that maybe some forum member input may save this forum it is heading downhill fast and has been for a while now. Just look at how many of the old members no longer use it but they still use some of the other forums. Voting for Moderators would be an excellent way to start and would probably bring back some members that have for one reason or another stopped using the forum. You just got your third nomination, at least you would be a Mod that can actually provide practical help on Techie subjects. Mike

in my short time on here it is apparent some members can not will not adhere to the rules hence the need here for moderators it is clear they seem to have to use there powers quiet often, unlike on 2 other trnc forums I joined today both off which moderators seldom have to step in . why do people some of whom are members of one or both of the forums feel they can abuse others and or disrupt this forum ? or is it members followe the lead of one or more mods and delight in disruption ??

The Saints quote "this forum it is heading downhill fast and has been for a while now" I have only been active on this forum for a short while. I have been an observer for quite some time but not able to join because of a hot-mail address. The Saints has got in spot on. It's plummeting rapidly and I suggest mmmmm has also got it spot on. He has stuck his head, as usual above the parapet to highlight why. I would definitely vote for you and I guess we would also be joining forces to vote against a common denominator

"this forum is heading downhill fast and has been for a while now" I agree, I and no doubt many others stopped joining in on some posts and debates because of snide remarks, bickering and innuendoes. I now only reply to posts that are not debatable, I felt I had to say something to this one as I don't think it is all to do with mods closing posts.

mmmmmm, You have my vote. Your inputs to the forum are extremely positive helpful and informative, you defend your corner with fact and passion. It must be extremely disheartening for those that attack you to be proved wrong again and again. But give them there due, God loves a trier. It is rare for me to respond to any topic but felt you deserve support, I for one would like to see the Moderators weed out the s... Stirrers and Keyboard Bullies they are soooo easily spotted. For a moderator to close a thread without listing a reason seems a tad childish or perhaps taking things personally, I really do think a short explanatory reason is in order this would help promote respect instead of suspicion as to a moderators actions. IMO. If I have broken a forum rule I apologise in advance. Good Luck mmmmmm. Derek.

How about Mods that actually have some knowledge they can part with to actually help forum users new and old with the every day problems that people experience living in TRNC. If they were actually a little more constructive and less obstructive the forum might get back on track. Ok Mark on Techie stuff i.e. TV and internet, there may be others that can offer this too, but he has stood up. DC he is very knowledgable on local history, for the culture Vultures, Elko he is already doing a great job giving spound advice on Legal and local government issues. Nurse awful, Chris has been very helpfull to many people on medical issues. There is a wealth of knowledge between the expats that could be put to good use if the antagonists backed off....

I'm afraid I agree with Tena..., Sixems - there isn't any doubt that you are a GC sympathiser, and you'd gain more credibility if you admitted it instead of trying to claim objectivity. However, oddly enough I have no argument with you becoming a moderator. What is it that mods do, other than close posts? If you began closing posts in a high-handed way I guess you'd be pulled into line. So off you go, then...all the best.

mmmmmm - I can live without this board and I have proved it. I already did a self imposed 1 year ban. Personally, I don't envy the mod's for the job that they do, but on the whole, they do a good job. This thread has only come about because you had a thread closed today and you've spat your dummy out over it. Precisely the reason why you are not mod' material, IMHO

Lordjim Bulletin Board For F**k Sake yenibob, I am guessing some people at least are interested in the bb ffs in fact you keep posting on the subject Mark, I am 100% behind you although I agree that the existing mods don't need to be removed unless of course they want to be. Richard, no offence intended but 95% of your replies are sarcastic, icluding the reasons behind wanting to be a mod, I do write this with a smile on my face honest but, how long do you thik it would be before you banned yourself ? Paul (Washerman) - I think that if you investigate further you would find that Mark only got banned after refusing to back down when warned about accusations against certain things and ironically has been semi-proven to be correct. I would say that it is improtant to have a strong person as a mod. I would say that the whole board needs a revamp, no photos allowed, no avatars, no edit available, posting limits. I could create a new forum that had all of this but

cont. This is a thriving forum and another forum would just be another forum until it became popular enough to be worth while. It would not be fair on Izzet to take away the popularity of this forum although it would be very nice to improve this one in such a way as to bring it up to date and to also have a little more control over the postings from the mods. In my opinion those posters that want it to be more allowable for disagreements should go find another medium, but hey maybe thats just me. I want a mod who tells me that I am getting out of order when I am, that is what they are for, not to answer silly questions although it would be nice to know when a post has been closed what the reason was instead of non specific.

Racoonchic - I banned myself because CY44 was being used as a means for several axe grinders to libel me and it was easier to withdraw than constantly defend myself. Proger1 - I don't know the reasons why he was banned, but he was banned and therefore, in my opinion, he has previous. I do wonder though, how far mmmmmm is prepared to take a vendetta when he gets the bit between his teeth and whether there were actions beyond his comments on this board, the result of which led to him being banned. Just speculation on my part, but there must have been good reason for him to be banned.

Maybe the mods should have been on a Fixed Term Contract so when their time was up people could put themselves forward as candidates and if the same names came up again so be it. Until others get the chance how do you know who is good and who is bad as a Mod. I do think to be a moderator you should pick people who are experienced individuals on different subjects, as has been suggested. I am happy to nominate Mark and anyone else providing they give respect to the poster and can pass judgement in an impartial manner without forcing their beliefs and opinions to be non negotiable and without debate.

Sorry Paul, I just reread my post and it is a little accusive, what I meant to say was isn't it hypothetically fairer to the nominee if the voters have an unbiased opinion. In other words you stating that having been banned previously Mark being a potential mod is questionable is a little leading to those who did not necessarily need to know the past history as it is not available to be seen for new members to form an opinion. Yes, Mark was banned, No it is not possible to see why and even if it was, people will not all know the history behind it. All I am trying to say is that if a member of the Guildford Four wanted a job in the police force should they be blocked because they were punished wrongly, worth a consideration really don't you think.

Washerman, if it came to the vote, then you would have made a fair comment to make your choice.

Message 67 - at least you recognise your own limitations Washerman. Mark used to have his own board with some interesting (and heated) discussions on it. But I can't remember him ever banning a contributor. You've got my vote Mark!

Hi Richard.. I'm off shortly, just don't feel the need to repeat an answer to Washerman ! As for those who STILL think I'm a GC sympathiser - I blame myself for poor communication - I guess they may have missed that I campaigned for a GC 'yes' to Annan, was totally 'agin' the crocodile tears of Liealotopoulos, and told 'em to go to the IPC and flood it with any claims .. I am on the side of any disenfranchised Cypriot - and that includes from '63 onwards .. Sadly, I'm off to Mallorca - not Cyprus - but Veta has never been to Spain and we are doing a 'grand tour' of Europe .. well, bit by bit - as she has finally got the right to travel visa-free - I'm off there on 'biz' and the flt cost 39GBP return INCLUDING taxes....

Perhaps this forum needs to set up a POLL..with nominations for MODS...all to be emailed to Izzit the announced the short list of applications. I do feel like the forum needs some sort of change to happen, also a lot of bans to be considered lifelong ones too. there seems some members are hell bent on causing problems, constantly insulting, and making un unpleasant Forum to view or participate..even I cant be bothered to log in any more. Oh well some will miss me some not.But its a shame if most members are feeling the same way about 44. It sure needs looking into and the sooner the better.. Spider,X

Paul - whilst I agree with the sentiment in your last two lines, unfortunately, mmmmmm still gets the black ball from me - why? - because in my experience of reading and posting on here, it's mmmmmm's way or, no way! He doesn't listen to or, accept reasoned argument. I have learned to deal with him the same way as he deals with others and he doesn't like it. Thank God, this is all hypothetical!

Lilli, how can he relax and worry about his credit cards at the same time, that is not possible for a man, our credit card statements are directly connected to our stress nerve system Have a great time Mark and Veta spider, I would miss you darling and the poll idea is a very good one however it wouldn't matter what the result was unless Izzet wanted it too.

I used to be a mod on this board and I was pretty useless at. It takes allot of work and effort to do it properly and people wont be aware of the large amount of communicating the mods do off line. I think most of the mods do a good job here. 6 m's does not get my vote.

Washerman, you criticise Mark for not listening but forgive me for saying this, you are doing exactly that. What I am trying to point out is that your anti Mark comments are creating a biased appearance against Mark based on your beliefs which I think is unfair. For example, ilovecyprus has stated he will not vote for Mark, that is fair however sating why you would not vote for him is unfair as people reading this who do not have the opportunity to get the hsitory of yours and Marks dissagreements as well as other incidents that people always quiote one side of would not be fair. As Mike has said above, it will never happen but should it ever be given the chance why should you have the right to condem someone who you don't agree with. Nobody else has done it so in genuine questioning, why do you feel that you have the right to be judge and enforce your opinion on the rest of the members who should be entitled to thier own opinion witout coerscion

Spider Msg 73 I really do not understand your logic of the post. No one can 'ban' themselves from anywhere, just decide not to shop, drink, or visit a particular place. If you don't like a particular thread, don't read it or log on to it or even think about contributing to it. If you do, and others disagree with your slant/take on the topic either debate it or gracefully 'walk away' in defeat/submission. So I take the piss, hopefully in a warped sense of my humour which doesn't go down with all and sundry but may put a smile on a few. Richard
