Its now 7 years since cyprus was accepted by the EU. We all know half an island accepted. Do you think it has done them many favours or has it hampered them. If the annan plan was agreed what do you think the outcome would have been as a united country x

unfortunately when you choose to reside freely in a country ,that you know is only recognised by turkey, you may have to appeal to turkey ,,,,although they haven't got the best human rights record......

Come on apc,get real Northern Cyprus voted for the anan plan in 2004,the gcs knocked it back and gained entry into the E.U.Is it fair to be kicked in the bollocks year on year. How many more kicks down below do you think they (Turkey) will take before they finally fight back, Paul.

The Ethnic groups in Cyprus are Greek 77%, Turkish 18%, other 5% of the population. (2001) The Annan plan equates the representation of the two major ethnic groups in the proposed Senate and in the Supreme Court giving 50-50 representation to the two communities. The majority becomes a minority in important decision centres.[2]

Daniel Fried (member of the National Security Council and special advisor to President Bush), stated on 26 June 2004 "When we were trying to convince Turkey to allow the passage of our troops through its territory in Northern Iraq, we gave Turkey two motives: several billion dollars in the form of donations and loans and Cyprus in the form of the Annan plan." From the outset the Annan Plan involved very little consultation of Cypriots themselves. that is both t/c and g/c .... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annan_Plan_for_Cyprus

At least you can get your UK State Pension paid here plus the annual increases - this wouldn't have been the case unless the whole Island was in theory part of the EU. Incidentally the UK State Pension is increasing by 4.6% next April (based on this month's RPI, folloing year's increases will be in lin with the CPI. CPI this year was lower than 4.6% RPI, it was 3.1% Geoff Impoverished Pensioner of Famagusta City.

Hi Geoff. We are new to the TRNC. Is it true you can get the UK State Pension paid here. Does it have to be a certain Bank, or any Bank here in the North. Thanks.

I was told there are about 11,000 expats living in TRNC, incl Brits, Germans, etc. Compared to about 85,000 in the ROC. These figures do not include holiday-homers. I have no idea how many TCs there are. Geoff

newlad What we are happy with or not is irrelevant to the rest of EU,who have absolutely no knowledge and no interest in Cyprus nor what what has happened in the past. If I choose to live in the TRNC I choose to live under an illegal regime and understand what that entails when it comes to EU or UK protection. Indeed some on this forum reckon if you chose to move to TRNC ,you shouldnt ,as a 'guest' expect basic protection under the law against fraud . The FO has given clear advise on the subject and as with other advice ,like dont travel to Afghanistan ,if I choose to ignore it then its me to blame. As for fighting for EU recognition, the TC's should do that on their own and we shouldnt interfere with petitions etc to MP's, as rightly or wrongly, we are considered to have taken advantage of the situation and our support of the TC'S would actually have a negative effect. Forget about EU ,just hope Turkey gets fed up with NC freeloaders and steps in,thats the way forward
