| guido; There was no war ın 1974 when the Greek EOKA-B started killing their own. In fact traffic to Greek side was open and the two communities were very close to a solution! It was an attempt, backed by the mainland Greek Junta to force a union with Greeece against the will of most Greek Cypriots. Europe and USA watched silently whilst thousands were butchered. Why? Because the GC communist party AKEL, flirting strongly with the USSR at the time, was gaining a lot of momentum in Cyprus. The cold war being still on and the capitalist-communist division of the world, was the main reason why no one did anything Turkey being a member of NATO most of its military equipment supplied by USA, was never expected to act becz when their masters the Americans said "sit" they had to sit (as in 1963). Behaving like spoiled children, EOKA-B para-military supported by the mainland Greek army (nearing 100,000 at the time) managed a coup. What happened next came as a great surprise to the West a |

| Excellent post Texas,although this sort of information isnt new to me,there are millions of people out there who are not aware of thre true facts from those dark days.Attrocities were commited on both sides,but its time that the true facts came out to a much wider audience then views it now.Lets start with the school books, Regards, Paul. |
