Hello again folks, another potentially silly question for you.

I know that it has been stated by Izzet that he can't do some of the changes that people have requested so there was no point in doing the poll that was suggested however I am curious to see what people would like to have added or modified if they could.

Please add any thoughts you might have to in your own opinion improve the forum for you personally.

I will start off with what I believe would enhance the posts.

Quoting, this is when someone posts a statement and you wish to reply to that statement directly or "Quote" on it.

It would put the original post in a highlighted box or simply between the brackets as I have done above. It avoids having to copy and paste the statement or referring to the message aND imo DOES ALLOW THINGS TO MAKE MORE SENSE, IT ALSO ALLOWS SEVERAL PEOPLE TO COMMENT ABOUT THE SAME POST WITHOUT CAUSING CONFUSION AS 5 PEOPLE ANSWER THE SAME COMMENT BUT END UP APPEARING TO DISPUTE EACH OTHER BECAUSE THE POSTS ARE IN ORDER OF SENDING.

sorry it seems like a futile exercise but id start by suggesting serial abusers be banned for life and not allowed to come back under another guise using different ip addresses and the likes

I would also really like the ability to Edit my post after sending.

Spellcheck would be great but if you are using a mac or firefox instead of explorer it is available anyway

I would like to be able to post a photograph myself instead of having to go to an image server site

I would like to be able to attach files up to a certain size limit

I would like more smileys to express myself better

What other things can you think of, Avatars, signatures, PM's,

rc, not futile actually, not completely possible if someone really wants to put the effort into doing it (they would need to hide thier ip address and use a different computer to login as well as have a different e-mail address but the unltimate answer would probably be the recommendation system that Hans suggested)unfortunately on this forum I am under the impression it is even harder.

A better navigation (headings) list on top of the forums page, allowing the mamber access to subject page where his post will appear. e.g: Cyprus problem/politics, entertaintment/social events, goods/services on offer, UK news, Seeking advice, sports etc...

But I do not think İzzet can do any of this because the forum is clearly of a fixed foröat and no one can make changes unless they are a programmer - in fact unless they programmed this forum themselves! Hence the need for a completely new forum under the same domain name.

Agreed, hence the questions, if it were to be changed it would be good to know the overall concencus of opinion unfortunately as I have found out on another site I created for someone, many of the less computer literate and dare I say it older members prefer the simplicity of the C44 site as is.

They probably have no idea about what is possible from an easily created forum or are too unsure of their abilities to post on a more advanced system.

I have seen recently at least 2 people who are regular internet users not sure about how to copy and paste and that is not a fault just that things have advanced so fast that if you missed a bit you struggle to go back and find it.

My 6 year old nephew taught me most of the shortcuts I know

There is a time limit to tha editing by the poster Pugwash for simple mistakes, for silly drunk postings the mods would only be able to change the posts and by then it would have been read by so many it would not be worth it.

I find there is so many topics on c44 ,i tend not to write in too many at a time, Why? because ive forgotten which ones ive wrote in lol. On facebook,if you write on someones wall and they answer you or someone else adds to it you get a notification. i think that would be quite handy but i dont know weather it can be done here.

eg someones starts a topic

i comment on the topic

then you comment

then i get a little red light flashing which i press and it tells me the name of topic and proger1 added.

but like i said before it probably couldnt be done on here.

not on hear vonny but in other forums you get the latest post section which shows who posted so you would see the post subject and proger1 posted, you can set them up also to send you an e-mail if someone answers but that is more useful on such a site that does technical assistance, you ask a question and when someone replies you get an answer, would you really want to get about 25 mails everytime you posts a thread just because people said BTT please

For what purpose Proger1? If Izzet can't modify the forum what's the point of discussing it- it's not going to happen.

Bill,

It is something I wanted to ask, if that is a problem then you are quite entitled to close the post.

Consider this though, if there were such things as people who might be willing to help Izzet create an updated version of this forum with additions to it would it not be wise to find out what they would like before he just went ahead and created it.

I have seen others ask for certain things and I have a few things I would like to see changed so I asked, again as said, if it is a problem delete the post, I can find out in other ways, it just wouldn't be so effective.

Paul. I'm not going to close it. However these questions have been asked before and Izzet has repeatedly given his response that the forum can't be changed for technical reasons.

Actually Bill,

I have just had a little rethink about that, there are many posts on here where people suggest what the TRNC government should do to improve the way they live regardless of the likelyhood of it ever happening, I have never seen you or another mod ask the question

"For what purpose? What's the point of discussing it- it's not going to happen.

Is this a case of, we don't want people saying whhat they would like in case someone else does it and takes our members, if so I wouldn't worry too much. Hans posted most of the other sites avilable recently and you still seem to have plenty of people online.

In all honesty, my question is a follow up to someone saying to me, if it aint broke don't fix it but in my mind it is broke and I wondered how oothers felt, possibly the answers to the question would be a couple of small changes that Izzet might be willing to change.

A automatic ejector,so when im phished and my naughty fingers get carried away it rejects my posts, surely that is a easy amendmant to the cyp44 program programmer !

But on a serious note, maybe just a edit button and a few more emotions to use,for the fun factor.

I don't think that is completely true Bill, possibly the forum in this format can't be changed but it is possible to export and import certain data to a new format which I can understand Izzets reluctance as it could be quite a hefty task, I would need to understand more of the base system than can be seen in the basic view script to know just how big a task it would be.

However if Izzet did build the site from scratch then he must have some wicked skills and if I as a hobbyist am able to find potential ways to upgrade the forum allthough it would take some time, I am sure Izzet could also do it.

Another simple way to go would be to start a new forum with the same name and incorporate the older posts into the search engine system. There are a couple of choices which would involve some effort but if Izzet is adament that he can't do it then maybe it's the way it is and therefore there is no poit i myquestion and also no harm

Paul. Members have the freedom to choose what forum they want to use and post on. That's for them to choose i certainly wouldn't advocate the contrary.

If you feel that there is a way for some additional technical features on here then email Izzet with your ideas. I'm sure he would listen and respond accordingly.

RE msg 15, No1Doyen: (...) For what purpose Proger1? If Izzet can't modify the forum what's the point of discussing it- it's not going to happen. (...)

=> Wrong, Bill. Your line should read as follows: "For what purpose Proger1? If Izzet DOES NOT WANT (my caps - DC) to modify the forum what's the point of discussing it - it's not going to happen."

Thanks Bill,

Here's a thought, I should probably ask the members what they would prefer to have changed so that I can e-mail Izzet about what might be possible oh wait, that was what I was doing before you told me it was pointless.

Sorry Bill, you don't deserve the sarcasm but I am not breaking any rules by asking and apart from 3 or 4 people I haven't got much of a response which to be honest is as I expected.

IMHO the majority of posters on here like to use it the way it is because they have got by for so long without all the add ons that could, again IMHO, improve the board a great deal.

As an example, instead of being able to post their own photos they have learned that they can e-mail them to others who will do it for them.

If however people do genuinly think that there can be imoprovements I am quite happy to look into what might be changed and now hopefully I can bounce ideas off BigOz and perhaps we can convince Izzet that there is a way to do it.

Here is another one that could be added to the forum, all sorts of sections like football, restaurants, bars, pets, medical, and one just for Brins to control, "bout to be closed". But my favourite idea is to create a section where idiots who just don't kow when to stop argueing will have their post sent and then others can avoid what they don't want to see, I would have to come up with a name for the pure arguement section though, I know, we could it "proger's happy place"

Well I didn't expect a lot of answers to this one but only 6 comments from all the members, I am amazed, really.

I am curious though about how many of you have actually looked at another forum to see what other things are available in a modern system however it does seem to point out that even if I wanted to help Izzet make changes the majority appears to be happy the way things are.

Sorry Bill, it appears you were right, it was pointless however not because Izzet doesn't want changes but rather because the members don't

Sad but true Richard although it is really nice to see that it is the only post in approximately the latest 20 that does not involve NC in one way or another, maybe its a sign of the times that things are heading in the right direction without my question. Apart from football of course but where would we be without football conversations.

oops, I must have skimmed past the one about foreign country support budget increase, unless of course NC does qualify for support as a poor country than it has bugger all to do with NC except for those people who live in NC but still pay taxes being upset about where therir money goes.

I have decided that you will not only be a mod but will in fact have your own section called "The Brinsley Factor" where posts that are getting near to being closed or yellow carded will be moved and then they have to convince you and you alone that it is worth either being returned to normality or being fully red carded and getting closed and therefore gaining the most interest. You will have the only power to modify posts and threads in the Brinsley Factor section apart from of course admin or your own chosen deputy. Will that cover the needs of the Brins.

I can't say I am not dissapointed however in honour of the man who made the idea possible I will still call it the Brinsley Factor with your permission of course, I will just have to find someone else to maintain its credibility who is not subject tio Hypertension or congestive heart failure.

By the way, doesn't the Bombay Sapphire do that for you, thins the blood and makes the stress just dissapear in a cloud of, well the eyesight gets cloudy in my experience.
