Using my laptop, happily listening to BBC Radio 4, everything 'freezes' after a period of time unless I'm actually using the mouse, activating whatever I'm doing. The radio is still 'streaming' (working) but can't do anything else without a total re-boot, which is annoying and time consuming. I've tried, Ctrl-Alt-Del and Fn-F10 but to no avail, nothing works except the radio. Is it a 'setting' problem?

Help please!

Richard

hmm not sure, could be the power saving making it go a bit funny. Hard to tell really. If you right click on the desktop and go down to screen settings, click on that then click on screen saver and turn them all to off, that might do it mate.

LaptaMIke is correct for the screen saver option but you might also need to check the power saving section in the same section, if it is set to sleep after a certain period it could explain the freeze up.

What version of windows are you using, I can check the locations and help a little more if it is XP or windows 7, I am afriad I don't have a vista sytem available but it would be similar to the other 2

Paul & Mike

Power on 'balance' using Vista. Still can't sort it out! Do I need to go to start and then onwards?

There are a couple of ways to do it but the easiest is to follow the procedure in the link below.

Paul

I've changed setting to 'high' performance though I rarely use my computer without electrical connection so the battery low output shouldn't be a problem. Lets see!

Richard, download and install (free) iTunes and listen to all the radio stations of this world (I will email you the URL's if you wish me to do so) uninterrupted 24/7. Let me know here if you need any assistance downloading iTunes.

Thanks Hans but only listen to BBC Radio 4 and now having mmmmmm VPN, commentary BBC Sports live for F1 whilst watching TRT2 on TV is sufficient.

Hope to be in NZ next year for the next World Cup so no need for high technological streaming then!

Hi Brinsley, The power issue should make absolutely no difference in my opinion. If the laptop cannot perform in power saving mode then whats the point.

It could be over heating next time it happens check how hot the laptop is.

I have had similar problems with a laptop previously and found it to be the fan not working which is unable to cool the laptop and then you get processor problems which in turn causes the freezing stuttering you are getting. If you have any compressed air switch the laptop off and then give it a good blow through. Also never use your laptop on a pillow, duvet or simialr as it stops air getting to it and causes overheating.

PS sent you an email regarding the speech lesson but never got a reply if you are still interested please let me know.
