Thanks for posting this apc.It just seems to me like its another kick in the whatsits for Northern Cyprus. The M.E.P.s have washed their hands of any further votes on such matters, and it will now be soleley in the hands of the E.U. members. What ever happened to the promise that was made in 2004.The whole thing leaves a nasty taste in ones mouth,

Paul.

As i also understand it,please correct me if i am wrong.Any further vote would have to be unanimous.Whats the chances of that with the Greek Cypriots allowed to vote, after their veto was cancelled.Looks like international/political isolation will carry on in Northern Cyprus,

Paul.

This is not something that will be taken lying down by either Turkey or TRNC.

This simply generates more bad feeling which will be reflected in the progress, or lack of it, in any negotiation.

Has this appeared in other papers with it being such an important development? This is the first time I have come across this paper.

So with this decision, coupled with direct flights, the EU expect the TRNC to give up their guarantees and trust the EU to safeguard their interest come a solution – SOME HOPE!

Hi newlad. You posted: 'As i also understand it,please correct me if i am wrong. Any further vote would have to be unanimous.'

I was under the impression that the Lisbon Treaty changed 'unanimous' to 'majority'.

Greenman

again I stand to be corrected but this is the point, it has been ruled that this matter does not fall into the category of EU trade with Third parties which is subject to qualified majority voting on the council of Ministers.

Instead it will require a unanimous vote which as comments above say ain't gonna happen

If the EU Legal beagle (JURI) ruling is accepted by the EU Commission then it's in the hands of the Member States.
