Thought I would be considerate and warn my fellow board members that both Hubby and I will be taking our Driving test between 8-9am on monday morning.

Even better news....they have found a tester in Nicosia who speaks a bit of English...should be fun!!!

After 13 lessons as first ever drivers (both of us!!) we have decided the time has come to risk our lives on the Girne roads.

If any of you have been stuck behind us from Karsiyaka to Girne when we have been on a lesson...then I take this opportunity to apologise!!

Hi Puppylover,

Thought I was behind you last week,

the car in front of me was driving very erratically,

when the road ahead was clear, I decided to overtake,

thought "this is another driver on their mobile, either talking or texting"

as I've seen before, in cars and on scooters!!!

As I was passing, glanced at the driver, he had a young girl,

about 4 years old on his lap, steering the car!!!

Not the smartest guy on the island

They start them young over here

Navek.....

Phew...glad you said it was a 4 year old and not a 47 year old...my hubby would have had heart failure if he found out I was sitting on my driving instructors lap!!!

Nothing surprising me over here...as a first time driver I've been totally shocked at the standard of driving here...especially the police officer in a marked car who nearly rammed me up the rear (car that is!!) today.

Would prefer a female as the males are harder to steer in the right direction!!

deecyprus4..

According to my driving instructor out of his 150 pupils he taught last year...5 failed.

He told us of one a couple of weeks ago where a local taking the test in Girne drove into a wall and the tester did not even bother to use the dual controlled brake. Apparently the instructor whose car had been damaged in this incident questioned why the tester had not done so and the reply (so I'm told) was it happened too quickly and he did not have time to apply them!!!

Makes you wonder how good the testers are.

In answer to your actual question...ask me monday evening after I've taken my test in the morning!!!

Hi puppylover,

Now at the Karpaz, parked my car behind a goat shed, and covered it with leaves, blocked the entrance, will that do?

13 lessons, unlucky number!!!!

Good luck on Monday.

Navek..... Good morning to you!

Ha!Ha!....I'm not that bad a driver!!

13 lessons...hadn't thought about that..the only consolation is that I'm not doing the test on a friday the 13th...that would worry me.

You be careful that the goats don't find your car, eat all the leaves and leave a load of crap on it!!

Enjoy your day!

Good afternoon Gruggs..blimey, you are up early for a sunday morning...thought your wife would be bringing you breakfast in bed?!!

Thank you for your good wishes and I will stay of the vino today....Champers tomorrow IF I/we pass.

Not much hope of me pranging your car when you are in Ramsgate and I'm taking the test in Girne...but I could always suggest to the examiner that Ramsgate is a nice place to visit on a monday morning...we could always pop in for a cuppa!!!

You take care and give my regards to your wife!!!

Our thanks to everyone who had sent us good wishes...we are both thrilled that we BOTH passed...saved us having a domestic!!!

I had to laugh last night...we decided to go out and celibrate.

We rang "Hassan" our lovely taxi driver (who also recommended the driving instructor) to pick us up.

He pulled up outside the house, got out and said "Congratulations...whose driving tonight?"

Well, the thought of driving a Mercedes was too much for me...so in I get with Hassan in the back with the hubby!!!

Happy days!!!

Hello, I am new to this group. My partner and I are buying an apartment in Alsanck and hope to retire to there in a couple of years time. Does everyone have to take a new driving test in TRNC or will a British licence be OK, and for how long?

Steve g, your current UK licence will allow you drive here for 3 months then you need a TRNC licence, currently a ten year licence costs 500YTL

(227.OO STERLING), make sure that you keep a forwarding address in the UK(for renewing your UK licence as you cant drive in the South of the Island on a TRNC Licence), locals can, ex-pats can't.
