Next Spring My Brother & Sister In-Laws are flying to Larnaca. They want to hire a car in the south and travel over to the north where they have rented a villa. Can they drive through the border with a south hire car? If they can, will they need to purchase insurance at the crossing?

Hi Max

http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/45909.asp is as good a place as any to find out..................

We always used Sun Rent a Car in Lefkosa - they send a taxi to collect you at Larnaca and bring you to their offices in Lefkosa to collect a rented car - easy!

Re : Msg 1,

They can hire a car in Larnaca (make sure they inform the company that they are going to take it to the North) and buy the insurance at the border.

You can hire Avis cars at Larnaca and drive them North.

But dont the hire companys hold a large deposit at Larnaca? A mate used to visit us coming through Larnaca and he told me one hire company held £600 deposit.

re msg 8.. I'm in Mallorca( Majorca!)

rule no 1 ;)

You might suggest: don't call it a 'border' if going from 'South' to 'North' .... unless you want a history / geography 'lesson' from a Cypriot who may remind you about UN security council resolutions, the only borders being the med...... bla bla...

It might be 'boring' to keep hearing it but 'cyprusgiant' DID ask, and folks new to Cyprus don't realise how emotive the use of the term is to most Greek Cypriots.....

OK, OK, I'll 'shut up'.... pass the Rioja, dear ;)
