Talking about what is needed to improve things here, I really get pissed when people decide to reply and offer goods for an inquiry that was made weeks ago or sometimes months ago! The initial buyer more than likely got what she asked for. All that is done is put a current date infront of the post on the main page and fool people into thinking its a new post! On two occasions over tha past one month, I foolishly replied to the original post, and to my embarrasment, realised my mistake, only after a second more careful look at the original post! OK, so I should be more careful but two important things here; Firstly the dates opposite the posts on the main page should reflect the original date the post was first up (instead of the date showing last post). Second thing is If anyone wants to offer something they have, rather than look for an outdated enquiry, start a new thread using a new topic!

Msg 1 Wouldn't worry about it. Every time I offer myself I'm still 'out of date' and certainly 'best before', and that was the last Century! Richard

BigOz, how are you at SMF, I am playing with some stuff at the moment and have gone a liitle to deep and am struggling to get back to the surface that is about as cryptic as I can get but some of it relates to the last few posts weve bounced back and forward.

first off find out what SMF is and then you will probably have an idea Bill. You might also realise why I was cryptic so I didn't get anybody annoyed, once a week is enough times for me.

The chance would be a fine thing as the bishop said to the actress. If you google it you will get an idea why I was not shouting it out loud like I did the other day and got zero respect from the common member

Bill, I know it sounds pedantic but please sto[p calling me Roger, that is my family ame and for some reason it iritates me to be called that, probably because after over a decade in the military I learned that whe someone shouted Roger, it was either an understanding over the radio or I had screwed something up and I was in the preverbial dung again

Paul (Proger1) is I think suggesting that the answer to anyone's dissatisfaction with this forum is to set up their own.. SMF being one way to do it... The home-grown software used for this forum has to be the most inhospitable one could conceive... Unfortunately I get the impression that Izzet has painted himself into a corner and the costs of rectifying the problem are considered prohibitive.. Of course they are not technically insurmountable given the time and money... First best choice would be to build a new site based on propriety feature-rich BB software readily available and export the data over to the new board.

Groucho, not quite what I was saying but close enough to explain why I was being cryptic, and also why I suggested people looking up what SMF was so that I didn't have to write why but it is basicly about the possibilities of data transfer using translation software as you have surmised. I just didn't want to look bad again after having 2 days of bitchiness with people about the forum in its present state, thanks for helping me out of that groucho whether it was intentional or not. Cheers.

Surely the only real problems with this forum are it not being used for the reason it was set up, i.e. to exchange information and provide a means of learning about NC, and of course the almost impossible task of moderating the whole issue. Trouble maybe was the problem if you want to call it that has been allowed to propagate for a few years now so will be almost impossible to root out.

Thanks Bill. yrret, I agree that what you have mentioned but genuinely think that if the forum was sectional these type of posts could easily be moved into sections where those that want to continue with them can and those that would rather not see them can stay away. The mods could move the posts to the other section and then if there was a system of members voting whether to keep the post open or not would decide the outcome, that way the mod doesn't get hassled for doing what the members wanted.
