How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?

To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: * # 0 6 #

A 15 digit code will appear on the screen.

This number is unique to your handset.

Write it down and keep it somewhere safe.

When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code.

They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless.

You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either.

If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

I took this tip from the http://www.glencoecyprus.com forum and there are more like it on the welcome thread, good advice

My understanding is that the mobile company knows every time the telephone you are using. Hence when you report the theft to the police, the police can ask the mobile company to let them know which phone numbers are called after the theft by the stolen telephone and thus by contacting these people they can easily catch the thief.

The IMEI (The International Mobile Equipment Identity) number is normally printed on the label on the outside of the box it came in... if you didn't buy a stolen one that is!

Oh and although this would stop the phone being used in the country of purchase it does not stop it from being used abroad. :(

Msg 7: 'Opening your car with your mobile phone if someone at home clicks the controller down the phone'

I tried it here with a GAU student - it worked for us after two or three attempts, although we tried at a distance of about 300 metres. The car was a Daihatsu.

Pipie you know full well that I moderate on the http://www.glencoecyprus.com forum and I have publicly stated on here in the past that I never post on it, so please get off your high horse and do try to act sensibly for once.

You have several aliases as we all know and post under a different one on that board, pretending to be your daughter, but thats OK isn't it.

Your time would maybe be better spent trying to repair the damage you have caused, not only to your investment but to others as well, you are such a pillar of the community aren't you ?

You who tells everyone to stick to the topic, one rule for you and one for everybody else Hmmmmm

We had a mobile stolen here. We reported it to the police. They informed Turkcell. The first time it was used (with a new sim)Turkcell informed the police. The police phoned the "user" and told him to report to Girne police station at once. He came within the hour saying he had bought it in a bar from someone he didn't know. So we got the phone back in a couple of days.

On a tangent, Christmas Day (UK) gets the most dialed 999 calls as it's the only number which works on uncredited/locked mobile phones as recipients of such presents want to see if their new fandangled machine works!

they have gone - perhaps deleted because I think AJ and everyone else are done with derogatory comments so therefore my reference to message 21 is now reference to message 19
