Below is what is missing: < Bu arada, Hataylılar Kültür Dayanışma Derneği Genel Başkanı Abdullah Atlar da yaptığı yazılı açıklamada, Son günlerde hükümetin kaçak işgücünün önlenmesiyle ilgili almış olduğu tedbirleri onaylamıyoruz dedi. İnsanların apar topar evlerinden alınmasını, çocukların eğitim durumunun göz ardı edilmesine seyirci kalamayacaklarını kaydeden Atlar, hükümetin kararını tekrar gözden geçirip af yasasını uygulamaya koymasını istedi

And the rest!!!! For the benefit of our Forign friends; In short, this guy is the head of Hatay'lılar Association in TRNC. Hatay being one of the relatively poor areas with plenty of abundant idle workforce on the border with Syria down South East. Hataylı'lar being the new occupants of Old city Lefkoşa (contesters with the Kurds as to who will occupy more space in TRNC). He is indirectly threatening and blackmailing the government about deporting the illegal refugees in TRNC, demanding an amnesty etc etc...

bigOz/Msg 5: 'He is indirectly threatening and blackmailing the government about deporting the illegal refugees in TRNC, demanding an amnesty etc etc...' How can he do that - why should the TRNC government take any notice of him? A Kurdish friend of mine told me that 4 families [living in uninhabitable, filthy hovels, with no sanitation] were recently deported. Apparently, there are, in the government's consideration, too many 'mainlanders' living in unacceptably squalid conditions - is this correct? You input/response would be most enlightening!

RE msg 5, BigOz: I often dwell through the narrow streets in Walled Nicosia (Lefkoşa), searching for (remains of) medieval houses. Children, unruly children, more unruly children in appalling poverty and dark-skinned grown-ups who have become increasingly unfriendly and sometimes hostile towards (Western) foreigners. You never see (Western) tourists there and I think I give up going and photographing there also. I'm afraid it's now a ghetto with its own rules. A bad development.
