I would recommend the Christmas package at the golf club. It's a really good 3 day all inclusive package starting from christmas eve. And apart from all the dinners etc that are included there will also ve a xmas eve party, tea & mince pies in Cafe akdeniz where there is a nice fireplace. On christmas day there is also a treasure hunt. You can get details from the reception there.

I would like to go somewhere that's under 5 feet of snow, snuggled up by an enormous fire, reading a beautiful book with carols being sung in the distance. I'd also like to have a huge christmas tree flickering with pretty lights with tons of wonderful presents underneath and be drinking a vat of mulled wine!! I'd also like to hear the faint tinkling of sleigh bells...just like i did when i was a kid. DD

Daisy dukes Ahhhhhhhhhhh....you have just described my best ever christmas...We did just that two years ago.My daughter lives in Canada, and she had arranged a log cabin at Whistler for the three day christmas break whilst we were there....The trees were laden with snow, everywhere festooned with lights, carols under the huge pine tree in the square, and then we had our own tree with presents under. The Icing on the cake was a surprise treat on christmas morningt, a sleigh ride on a horse drawn sleigh, with jinglebells, tartan rugs and christmas hats as we travelled over a frozen lake in the wilds of the rockies...not a soul there apart from me and my lovely family...........what other memories do other members here have of their best christmas??

We had Christmas Day at the Malpas last year, excellent value for money and the food was wonderful, couldn't fault the service. New year, you couldn't do better than Patina's Catalkoy, they were wonderful, fabulous meal, attentive service and a great start to the New Year with fire crackers. Thoroughly enjoyed it, particularly as it was our first Christmas/new Year living here.

Discerningdol - message 14. Been there a few times now over the Christmas/New Year period and can't fault it. The staff are friendly and welcoming, food good and the accommodation is immaculate. The Ship has everything we need - tennis courts, indoor pool (with two teenagers this is handy) and also a pool table keeps them happy. Not far from town and we just look forward to visiting every year. If the weather is good then that's a bonus. Hope that answers your question in part. See you there !

We're off to see our son in Perth, WA. We haven't been together for Christmas for some years, and, although we are arriving a day late, it's his 30th birthday on the 30th December - we haven't spent a birhday together for some years, either. So, a different type of Christmas for us all round - sun, sea and sand - and New Years Eve with our son - can't wait. Hope you all get the Christmas you want this year, no matter where it is

Shrimp, the Christmas you have described sounds delightful. We will be here in Lapta for Christmas, me slaving over a hot stove ;-) With it being our most important meal of the year I have to cook it. I normally start making bits for the Christmas period a month or two before Christmas. Chutneys, pickles, various stuffings, sausages wrapped in bacon, little nibbles for the buffet, things like that. Here is what we will be having for Christmas Lunch Roast Turkey Chestnut Stuffing Sage and onion stuffing Cranberry stuffing Bacon and sausage rolls Bacon Rolls Roast taties Roast parsnips Brussel Sprouts Carrot and swede (haven't decided whether to mash or not, will decide on day) My special recipe mashed potato Cauliflower and broccoli in cheese sauce Peas Lashings of real gravy made from the pan juices Cranberry sauce Apple Sauce Bread Sauce

wow, laptaMike....sounds scrummy.....how many do you have to cook for? We are in Devon but all the family are coming and more and as my son is a chef, lucky me gets out of the cooking and can just enjoy the eating! Boxing day we pack up all the leftovers and head off for a pic-nic to the rugged coastline of Hartland point...(I would like to spend a christmas in N. Cyprus one day though!!)...best of luck with all your preparations

hi shrimp, only the three of us (and the dog now of course, he's going to be a happy little doggy for his first Christmas) We usually have that for lunch about 3ish, then a buffet tea which I leave out for the evening aswell so we can just go up and get little nibbles every now and again. Boxing day, we have cold turkey with chips and some of the leftovers for lunch then a similar buffet again for tea. We lived in Devon for a while, Plymouth, dad worked for Rolls Royce in Devonport. Beatifull part of the country. Lovely pasties down there from a small chain of bakers (forgot waht they're called, have a few shops in Plymouth one in Newton Abbot and maybe one or 2 others, run by brothers)

Sorry to say this but unless you are a "Christian"in the true sense of the word, Christmas is just an exercise in excess, highly commercialised indulgence, obsequious friendship's and over eating.....I wonder how big the turkey will be for the starving masses of this world......................But then who give's a monkey's.?..........Happy New Year...........Christ save us all....

Hi Lapta Mike, Your comments have made me feel homesick. How long ago were you last at Trago?.After the big fire there, they really spruced it up when they rebuilt .Prefered it as it was,you could pick up some bargains there amongst the c**p. Plymouth bakeries, Rob used to collect pasties, hot from the oven, early in the morning and deliver them all over Torbay/Totnes. Like you we'll be sharing Christmas day with our dog Shaz.Born in Crediton on a farm but now relocated to Esentepe, our second Christmas here. Your menu sounds mouthwatering.Hope you all have a wonderful day Lyn

Roblyn, Trago is not the same since the fire but if you look deeply you can still find lots of bargains, it is more like a theme park now!! Lots for the kids to do......I love Totnes, it is a special place and the atmosphere there is different to any other place I know..... LaptaMike, have you remembered the name of the pasty shop yet??? Do you have your own recipee, I bet you do! agree your christmas menu sounds inspiring....

Me i will be here working as usual to serve our lovely customers their xmas lunch. If I had a choice I would love to be in the Dolomites in a chalet. With a log fire. Smoked salmon and scrambled egg for breakfast with a glass of cristal, Long lunch at say 5pm italian style. They prefer lamb. As long as I have a good french white as I cant drink red. Then just to relax and crash out. All the family with us and next day go to ski x

Shrimp... I can defiantly agree with you regarding Warrens pasties, they are the best ever, had a couple yesterday, and put two in freezer for tea in week. Trago too is not so appealing at Liskeard, it is like Grotto land, so much stuff you get a bit over whelmed, and end up buying nothing at all !! Laptamike my family come for xmas dinner and I do practically the same as you, only roast potatoes done in goose fat.. grandkids wont let me come to NC for xmas, but I will when they are a little older... Only difference is I do a onion stuffing that my mother-in- law passed down to me... My family just love it...

| Not being a great fan of brussels sprouts however, the best I ever tasted was in France. Recipe:- Parboil the sprouts and cool. Using the French style of very fatty bacon (available in the South) chop into fine pieces and slowly fry in a drop of olive oil then add the sprouts and saute moving the pan continuously until the sprouts have a sheen and serve. | Walk up Buffavento in the morning - brandy at the top of course - then back to home to start the roast off in the magic oven (power cuts allowing), down to the beach for a walk in the sun and the sand then back to start off the veg, quiet meal on the patio (just the three of us, (me,her and the dog) then a nice bottle of port, some cheese and good coffee to end the repast! Followed by a very close examination of the inside of the eyelids for an hour or so..... Good food, good wine, good company - what more can you want? Merry Christmas one and all and a very happy New Year! |

| Also as they say back home there might be a lot of lonely people here in North Cyprus over the Christmas season so please remember them too....not everyone has partners to celebrate with either..They say back home please keep an eye on the elderly living around your area who might be on there on this Christmas ! and some may not be elderly people either just people living alone... | Whistler msg40, indeed they were!!!! Hehe shrimp, now you know. I do have a recipe or two but I still prefer Dewdneys. (Especially their pepper pasty) They would freeze them uncooked for us to put in a chiller to bring back home and cook ourselves if we asked. Richard, your sprouts recipe sounds very nice. Dizzy, I would normally use goose fat myself I ended up throwing a few jars of it out when we moved here. Sorry if I have missed anyone elses questions or comments. Only human and sorry for not replying on this thread for a while (or this board much, I have become somewhat despondent towards the board lately). |

I also cook sprouts in this way, parboil them for 10 mins, fry off some pancetta (Lardons) then roll the sprouts round in the frying pan with the pancetta - brown them off a bit then chuck in some chestnuts (pre roasted) and serve. Yummy, nicer than the turkey! Merry Christmas to all
