Turkey has lifted its ban on YouTube, two years after it blocked access to the website because of videos deemed insulting to the country's founder.

Transport Minister Binali Yildirim, who is in charge of internet issues, said the government had been in contact with Google, which owns YouTube.

Mr Yildirim said there was no longer any reason to ban the website, because the offending videos had been removed.

Or Turkey faces reality that you can't stop the technology and if you try you look foolish in the extreme?

it was never blocked in the TRNC so if you had an ISP based here you would have been able to see it. Im glad Turkey has finally realized it's ridiculous to ban sites because a few people say some bad things about Ataturk. I think the man would have been more offended that Turks weren't able to visit youtube than that a few greeks called him names. All banning it did was ensure that everyone in Turkey was aware of the videos and that the anti-Turk agitators got what they wanted.

I see utube have re-posted the offending articles that got them the ban, apologies in advance if I am repeating old news, as I know some on here are sensitive to little mistakes
