We had really high bills last month, 45 tons at home but we had had a leaking pipe however just got this month's one, not even a full month but 46 tons! We are of course not using as much as the summer with less watering of plants & less frequent showers, no guests.

Another house we have in the village which is unoccupied we just go once a week to water used 41 tons we have not had the current bill yet dread to think what that might be!

Anyone else had unusually high bills please

We have discovered that the guy who is reading the meter is reading it wrong!

Instead of the reading being in the hundreds he is recording it in the thousands.

Check, check check and inform the Muhtars office if you find the same is happening.

Happens to us in Girne.Lots of air coming thru the pipe which makes the dial spin even faster than water coming thru.Have to keep switching it off when we hear the air coming and then keep checking till water starts !! Boring but saves a lot of money.

I reckon roisin is correct, it's air in the pipe that sends the meter spinning. They will of course deny this but I have seen it with my own eye's.

We have a friend who lives on her own and has been getting bills for 25 ton plus for last 2 or 3 months..... which is not possible. Before she used less than 10 so there's defo something amiss.

If this affecting everyone & has only started to happen fairly recently then this seems the most likely explanation to me. Reading the meter incorrectly would be an easy mistake to make if you did not know how to do this?

Fortunately I do not live in Ozankoy (nearby though) but know many who do. I'm glad we have never had this problem, yet !!

We had two high reading both whilst not in NC, one was for 75 ton? no way could we have used this amount , we took it up with Lapta Beledi (cant spell it) they said someone was pinching water. As we are not in NC for 9mths of the year, they advised us to take out the meter and only have it installed when over.. But we think its more like air in the pipes.... So now we shall only use bottled water for drinking and tanker it in for the hose/ pool tanks.....
