| HURRIYET - Dervis Eroglu, president of the Turkish Cypriot administration, asks Turkish President Abdullah Gul to help finance purchases of Greek property in northern Cyprus. Gul asks the head of the Banks Association of Turkey to set up a commission on the issue. Eighty percent of property in the Turkish region of the island is owned by Greeks. http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSLDE6A209E20101103 |

| "Eighty percent of property in the Turkish region of the island is owned by Greeks." That doesn't mean 80% of the land though! Navek |

| what do you think will happen to the greek land in the north that is not built on, and is just poor scrub land, I don,t think any one would want to pay over the odds for it, and I don,t see the greek wanting to come over and work it, the best thing that has happened to some of the greeks was for this poor scrub land to be built on, at least it worth something now or should i say they will get a return on it, Sundance |

| aj message 1: quoting this report you tie-in the "cyprus problem" with compensation ...but is that realistic? no, gc claimants could better solve their "cyprus problem" by restituting former homes and land, and re-occupying areas like kyrenia etc and there is little in the way of evidence that their leaders ever tabled any sort of second-best compromise deal in the current talks, it is the turkish side, international wise heads and some delusional expats that see any mileage in waiting on the gc's to surrender much of their "ownership" all the while permitting real northern autonomy within cyprus as we have found, technical/international legal ownership may not amount to a hill of beans in cyprus terms: after all, how much could a greek (cypriot) expect to receive in return for selling "his" property in the north? not for very much I guess, the world of money is merciless but pragmatic regarding compensation schemes, it is one way out of the present impasse
