A friend is thinking of purchasing a car (value £10000) in the UK to drive over to TRNC and leave here for future use. He is concerned about the hassle of import duties etc. Can anyone offer any advice please.

Hi emineden1, It may be better to invest their £10,000, if they are able to, in a TRNC bank. Then use the interest to hire a car when they come over. Navek

My advice is; If you want to own a car in TRNC and it is going to second hand, bring your own over from UK.You just never know what you might end up with here. Especialy with foreighn car importers trying to hit the market as well.

fosterscan; I was refering to dealers and some clever ones whom import ex write offs for the porpuse of selling them at a profit by making it look as if you are getting a good deal. You just have to trust me on that one.

If you own a UK car and its a good runner no problems and its under five years old low cc petrol or you have owned a car for over five years low cc and petrol . Then its a good and economic thing to do cheaper than hiring in the long run Import a 2500cc plus diesel that has little UK value because of age and mileage you will still pay a fortune in import duty Do your research and the maths if it makes sense do it

Buying cars here is fine, yorgozlu is scaremongering, yes maybe an odd problem but no worse than the UK, the 2 cars I have bought have been the best I have ever purchased anywhere, and most cars here are low mileage.

Pugwash; Thats all fine all the while you dont know what I do for a living. Bring me any car you want, year 2000 onwards and I'll put any mileage you want on it in half an hour and you WONT know the difference.
