Am I the only one who cannot understand why one would want to go to a bonfire on November the 5th. in Cyprus I am leaving England to get away from all these things. Why do some expats want to make Cyprus another England with all it's over commercialised silly traditions? Embrace the local customs, you live here now.

Small bonfire, gust of wind, now that would be some Bonfire. There was a thread about this the other day and I am sure it said they are not allowed in TRNC, or maybe that is fireworks.

Butler - MSG 5... don't be such an old fart.

I have kids that i want to enjoy bonfire night as much as I did. We are very much involved with local traditions and my children go to local school - not because of the fees but because we want them to grow up with local friends, speak the language and appreciate the local traditions.

Can they not also enjoy some of the Western ones too???

Has there beeen much rain or is it still very dry in Cyprus? If the latter, then methinks tis not such a good isea to be having fires and letting off fireworks in back gardens!

Have to agree mess 5, like the letter in Cyprus today moaning that they went to yhe police station to do residency and found it was a bank Holiday! everyone's fault but themselves, they live here and don't know the holidays, disgraceful.
