Last year we were allowed 7 days after the residency stamp expiry to go across the border. Today they refused to let us cross to take our visitors back to Larnaca as the stamp expired five days ago. Our renewal has been in Lefkosa for 3 weeks and it is still not ready. Border guy said go to police station and get paper to say so. Police station said no not needed. GGRRrrrrr! At least there was a mini bus taxi, with one passenger, next to us going to Larnaca, so the visitors continued their journey. WHY don't the police automatically give you a receipt or something to say the process has been started when you go through the first part of residency renewal? Before anyone says don't use Larnaca my friend is disabled with M.S. and the shorter flight is better for her as at least when she is in the car we can always stop en route if she needs to stretch.

She could always fly from Ercan and break the journey in Istanbul, super place for a short stopover. And before the wisekids start I know all about MS, my late wife died of it after having it for 18 years. Now re-married. Geoff

Sorry no, once on the plane she just wants to get home. It would all add to the fuss for her, which she doesn't like, as she requires a wheelchair at the airport, she has also been suffering with MS for years and tries to be as normal as possible. Airports are a nightmare for her as you would be surprised at how rude and inconsiderate people can be about wheelchairs.

Did the minibus driver offer for free or what was the cost to take your friends? I ask because on an occasion when I was using my friends car I got to the border to find insurance office closed, same here a lift was offered by a passing taxi, 60 euros, as he already had a fare I said no thank you!!

Just a thought Pan, but I thought the return from LCA to the UK was about 5 hours? Longer than the flight out for some reason. If she flys ECN-IST (1hr and a bit), but stays on the plane, she can stretch legs while on the ground, then it's only 3-1/2 hours to UK from there. OK, two flights, but both shorter durations. I have no understanding of MS I am afraid, but you are right about wheelchairs at airports, I fly a lot, and have often seen people struggling, and helped them, and the very unpredictable ground services.

Hi Panchocat the wheelchair thing yes i agree theres allot of people dont think what these disabled people go through getting from point A to point B my Partners mother who is wheelchair bound travels from Glasgow to Larnaca twice a year and up to this point has not had any trouble get the assistance and they make sure you are in the departure lounge put onto the aircraft and seated same both ends. As the saying goes if you dont ask you dont get. And the border wont let you through if the stamp on the passport is not up to date, i got turned away going to pick someone up at Larnaca ,same the paper work had been done but they dont have the computer system to back it all up, paper work done at the police station stays at the station untill somebody takes it to the next step

Hi GB John, no problem getting assistance at the airport, it is the general public who push, shove and crowd around in their rush and make comments too! The rule about going across the border for 7 days after expiry changed in October. Up until then they gave you 7 days grace. Settledhere, the border guards negotiated and the fare was 50TL for two. Yrret they have done Ercan to Manchester with CTA in the past. She finds Larnaca with Monarch easier. Still think the police should give you a receipt to show that you have started renewal procedure, but hey ho such is life!

They didn't want a scene so I believe the latter! :-( As said in the original post it was a case of getting them to Larnaca once we were refused exit from TRNC and it was a taxi at the border that was on it's way to Larnaca with one passenger.
