Not only Lapta way Mike.Beautiful much loved dog under a year old.Fortunately owner was alert and prevented her dog from devouring a large ammount of the offending material.Got to the vets in time. The material was collected and taken to the vets for analysis. At least this action may prevent some poor stray from an horrific death. Seems the only answer is a muzzle which they hate to wear.Even kept on lead they are quick as a flash to snatch up forbidden fruit. Some day it will be a child!!!

I think your last point is the only one to use when petitioning the authorities about this barbaric habit. One day it could indeed be a child and how would they feel then.

Poison was thrown into my garden 20 odd years ago when my grandchildren were actually in the garden, and my poor dogs and cats got to it before they did. We knew who it was too, but the police said we had to have proof!

This is really bad news and we expect more with the hunting season. Today I spoke to customers who took dogs out from KAR, only to have one poisioned in front of them. Think this was also yesterday. The husband had to go back to the centre ang get a bag to bring the poor dog back in.

Hi Roblyn Do you know where on Alagadi the poison was. Was it on the actual beach or nearer the cafe or along the road leading to Alagadi. Seems to be an area for dogs to get poisoned. I walk a lot in the mountains and both my dogs wear basket muzzles. Was walking near KAR on Monday, so also interested to know details of that poisoning. It is all so depressing!!!

it is so frustrating. I had a look along our lane today but couldn't see anything. Hopefully in my case on the other thread I was just being overly paranoid. I am glad the owner managed to get to the vet quick enough. We now keep our own vial and syringes of the stuff the vet uses for poisoning. One vial is enough for 20 doses and cost us 40tl. Little kids play on our lane aswell so it is especially worrying.

What do you carry to counteract the poison? We will be taking our dog out and about as soon as home quarantine is over so would like to be prepared. Got a basket muzzle ready and have tried him wearing it. Not keen but will persevere.

I've forgot what it's called (atropine I think) 2mg in the back of the neck for a large dog like a german shepherd. Still worth running down to your vet though

Mike you can also buy it in the chemist. Im told that its illeagal to buy the poision south side so they come here to buy it. I wish to god they could start a register or some way of knowing who buys this poision and this government would step in to get it made illegal here x

Groucho, its not the hunters who put the poison down, its the shepherds and farmers whose livestock are at risk when the hunters dump their dogs at the end of the hunting season, or mid way through if they arent performing very well. At the end of every season there are lots of dogs, usually pointers wandering around, starving, who then target the goats and sheep. Its terrible, the government should insist on licences for hunting dogs, and the owners should have to have them chipped and produce the dogs for inspection at intervals throughout the year in order to proove that they are responsible owners and thus worthy of a licence each year.

Atropine is a heart stimulant that keeps the animals system going whilst you rush to the vet for a drip to be applied. It is not an antidote.

Is anyone able to confirm where the poison was at Aligadi? I hadn't heard of any poisoning for ages - I wondered if a corner had been turned... clearly not. :(

Msg 11. Tinkie. You are right as to who and why the poison is being put down and you cant blame the shepherds for doing so. BUT it comes back round to these so called hunters! Something needs to be done about these imbecile's. *Most of them come from Lefkosa*

The poison was on the sandstone channels by the big rocks down from the carpark between alagdi 2 & 3. It was frightening quick, but luckily my dog survived. Being a healthy 9 month old, didn't get to eat too much and getting to the vets asap were the the key factors. Next week after a blood test we will see if there is any long term damage to her kidneys and liver. Thanks to all at petcross especial Sibel for all their expertise and kindness. Beware and make sure you have your antidote with you at all times.
