A friend of mine has just returned from the UK on a Turkish Airline (THY) ticket to find himself on an Anadolujet, the charter division of THY, providing only a stale sandwich and no drinks. So much for 'Globally Yours and You're a star'. Having paid 'top whack' for the ticket; so much for another TRNC easy pickings con! Richard

As I understand it all THY flights from Stanstead are now Anadolujet. If you want the real thing you have to fly in and out of LHR.

I believe it is only the Stansted route that Anadolujet has taken over to the UK.

Wife and kids were flying THY ECN to STN and back for Christmas. At the time of booking THY was by far the cheapest. Flights have been consolidated, return flight from UK canceled to day before or day after, and arriving later NY eve at ECN She got the both flights refunded and booked onto on one of the extra Peg flights now laid on at better times for nothing more, so a result all round ............... this time. Must say, never yet been disappointed with a Peg flight.

| What a fantastic con, book and pay for a cheap ticket 9 months in advance, flight cancelled days before with full refund but no interest payed for 'playing' with your money and then re-book with another carrier for twice the initial price! These idiot airlines are now turning out to be on the same wavelength of bankers. £5 for paying by credit card but there's no other-way to pay! 1.5% credit card charge use to the airline does not warrant £5 in most cases, work it out! | Over last 6 weeks travelled 3 times with Andolujet. very comfy flights meals were good, far better than via Larnaca, you get meal included in prices and get more leg room. |

We always use Larnaca, got sick of the stale cheese and half a cumcumber sandwiches. We can also get 3200 ciggs duty paid from larnaca.

Msg 9 Good one! It's now noted for future reference should it be required. So what is the difference flying to Stansted as second class citizens rather than Heathrow where there is no price differential in the ticket price? Richard

PS to my last message, having to get off at Istanbul and nearly getting arrested because the official thought I was a terrorist or something doesn't help either (just because of my very old and dog eared passport)

Cheapest way back to London is any cheap fare to Istanbul SAW then Easyjet to either London Luton or Gatwick. Just booked for march next year £110.00 all in. Bit of a wait in SAW,but I'm after the cheapest way back.

There is no 'allowance' from one EU Country to another so long as it's for personal use. Had the same argument returning from TRNC to LHR and when stopped said, I'd come from Cyprus, an EU Country which HMG only recognises the whole Island as an EU member. They can't have it it both ways and I got away with 3 cartons of cigarettes! Richard

I know thats the law Richard, but the UK gov is a bit stubborn about it. They imposed the arbitrary 3200 limit illegally, it's not worth spending a night and day in a customs office trying to argue the point though over a few fags. IMO

Never actually been banged up anywhere in my life Richard luckily. At Istanbul I think he was just a bit suspicious about my passport because it was so old and dog eared. With regards to customs, I always smile and try to look half decent. Never been stopped or searched. I remember a few years ago I was going through immigration at an airport in Egypt (when you could still smoke) a family got pulled over, they were giving me dirty looks for smoking, (the official was smoking in his little cabin), I spoke a little arabic to him and smiled, and he just waved me through.

Any idiot that tries to take in copious quantities of Marlboro Red or Light, B&H, Silk Cut is asking for trouble but when it's Gitanes, Gauloises, Davidoff etc. it's hard not to realise that they are for personal consumption only! Richard

So true Richard. As long as your sensible about the quantities, friendly and polite there is no reason to have any problems. Once, I got mugged in Paris. I was in the police station for hours giving a statement. They drove me to the embassy and I got a bit of paper as a replacement passport. I went to CDG airport. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. They put me on an earlier flight, upgraded me to business or first class (not sure which) for free. Got back to the UK and I was welcomed back with a smile and I hope you are better soon (and I'm bet your glad to be home) by immigration. That was BA by the way.

I have used Turkish Airlines several times in the last few years using the Ercan Istanbul Manchester route and also Muscat Istanbul Manchester. No complaints from me. I find them a good reliable airline. Luck of the draw I suppose!

Msg 28 Back on topic, why is THY substituting it's 'down market' charter service to passengers that have paid top price to fly with their schedule, highly marketed premium service carrier? 'Globally yours, You're a star' We've got your money so piss off! Richard

Liz Not only Man U, but they also sponsor Galatasaray and Barcelona FC's, keeping CNN & BBC World happy in TV advertising revenue. It's a no wonder they have so much left to care about customer service! Richard

Flew Anadolujet in the October half term. Booked early and cost £600 for three of us. Service was fine as I was well aware that had booked with the budget arm of Turkish Airlines, and was pleasantly surprised with the food, given that fact. The plane from Istanbul to Ercan was a tired 737-700 with poor seats and legroom, but the 737-800 from and to Stansted was an old Turkish Airlines plane with plenty of legroom, and with the front seats still configured for business class legroom. Best of all, every take-off was on-time and we landing 25 minutes early at Ercan, and 30 minutes early at Stansted on our return.

Be careful. An airline can refuse you to fly if your passport is damaged.

Well who ever complained about the food must be a very sad person, did they not mention the extra legroom seats which come free, the politeness and friendliness of the staff the reliability of being on time, arriving early in most cases, 23kilo of luggage all at no extra charge and if you check on line some very good competitive prices.
