A couple of hours ago there was a knock on my door. It was 3 policemen from the antiquities department with a court order to search my apartment. There had been a complaint placed that I was in possession of looted antiquities. I gave them the freedom to search anywhere, including a storage area they weren't aware I had. From the information they gave me, it was obvious that the complaint came from a member of this forum, I suspect from somebody that knows I have an interest in the Cypriot Heritage. Needless to say they found nothing.

Let me make some things clear.

I am not, and never have been in possession of antiquities, either legally or illegally.

I believe that the heritage of Cyprus should be protected, and will do all I can to achieve that aim.

This posting is permission for the authorities in Cyprus and the UK to search any property I own or have access to at any time without a search warrant, even if I am not present.

If I discover who is involved, I will not hesitate to report them for wasting police time, and I will commence action for defamation.

Something not right here. Why would plod indicate that their information came from a member of C44? They do not divulge their sources unless they want to shit-stir, so having 'dangled the carrot' why didn't they give you the the name of the conspirator? This Forum is not liked by this present fascist, xenophobic Government, so they will put any spanner in the works to make all expatriates paranoid.

May I echo all thats been said? Someone has said something, as Police do not turn up just for nothing. Why won't they reveal who told them, and coldn't they be made to provide proof as to why they think you are guilty.



Must have been a horrible experience. So sorry to hear it has happened to such a nice guy.

Same thing happened to another member a year or so ago,Police turned up at his house saying they had been tipped off he was the Karsiyaka burgler armed with a search warrant,fortunately the 'grass' didn't do his homework and the 'accused' had one of the highest security clearances in the armed forces and thankfully the Police left apologetic and empty handed.It has to be said there are some nasty b*stards about.

Two points, Ian did not say he was told it was someone on this forum and secondly, there are not only Brits posting here, get your facts straight, this is the problem with this site, people do not read all the posts thoroughly, it could quite easily be a TC or any Eurpoean or other nationality who went to the police.

Let me clarify the last post. I was not TOLD that the information came from a member of this forum.



However, during their visit, what they DID say to me, indicated that their source came from here. There was no indication of the nationality, and I am perfectly aware that you don't actually need to be an official member to read the posts. In fact I'm sure there are many regular readers who have not bothered to register as a member.



In general conversation about my web site, how long I'd been in Cyprus, what did I do before retirement etc, it was obvious that they had knowledge about me that is only available from comments made on C44.

=> Brinsley, as you may well know: quoting people incompletely can suggest the wrong things. If you had quoted ianwsf this way: "From the information they gave me, it was obvious that the complaint came from a member of this forum, " you didn't have to make any comment at all.

From ianwsf's text in msg 1 I understand that he doesn't want to be more specific - for the moment. Let's respect that and target our comments at the despicable man or woman who went to the police and filed an unfounded complaint. I DO hope ianwsf finds out who did it.

Yes. Quite correct. It could have been a Police Officer doing his job. I dare say we have many occupations reading this board. I was, however, categorically told that a complaint had been placed by a member of the public. If that was not the case, the only conclusion is that the police were being devious in order to stir up trouble. Possible, I suppose, but I would suggest highly unlikely. I'm sure the TRNC police have better things to do.

For "assumptions", please read circumstantial evidence.
