it breaks up in the UK on a hugely fast connections - not exactly a great advert.... it isn't 'free' ..unless 'they' hacked it ;)

I watch it without issue............ do you want to come and see for yourself?

How can you make comments like this without knowing what the quality of my viewing experience is?

Let people try it if they want, I doesn't cost a penny !

You manage to badmouth everything that makes your 'adverts' seem bad !

BTW... mmmmmm,

I was introduced to this by a friend in the South who has no issues.... perhaps the Internet connections in the ROC are faster than the ' hugely fast connections' in the UK !

Msg 3

Get a life ! (sic)

Another one of the great writers on C44 coming out with such original cliches having graduated with First Class Honours from Cambridge University.

filmon.com does not work unless having a 20 second retarded mental input to counter the constant buffering. It's rubbish and full of viruses.

Actually Brinsley,

Perhaps it doesn't work for you. This I can accept ! However, for me I have no issues and it works !

No sign of any virus in the time I have had the application installed. No buffering issues to speak of...maybe I am just lucky?

The point is, perhaps other readers of the forum may benefit from trying it out. After all, it is free.

As for the reference 'Get a life', I don't have to repeat myself to you too.......... do I ?

I had it with Turkcell G3 on their first unlimited annual contract and it just did not work and I was accumulating all sorts of malware.

ive got a friend back in england who uses filmon when he is in the office, his broadband is with virgin media.

He does not get the slightest bit of freezing.

when you open filmon and the tv screen is showing, in the top left hand corner, clikk view, then preferences, then when the box opens, move the slider in the buffer from small to extra.

I know it is impossible for this to freeze in the uk with the good broadband you get there.

Even iplayer freezes a little here with a 2Mb internet connextion.

Filmon is the cheapest and best way to watch live uk tv, but you need a faster internet speed.1mb or 2mb.

in almost 3 years ive tried all there is for british tv.

And im still with filmon.com

as it is the most reliable for live tv.

Dear ZC, I have the buffer slip across to max, and I don't disagree that you need a fast connection - but I do get artifacts / breakup - don't get that with iplayer, etc.

Certainly, I hope you'd get a similar size viewing window on a sling feed from us ona 50- 1 meg connection that shouldn't breakup - so I content the filmon isn't the most reliable for live tv.. although it is FREE ;)

i notice the word you use is SHOULDNT, so are you still not sure about the sling feed?

Back again found that some of the channels you can run either High Quality or Low Quality and you drop down to between 200 kbps and 400 kbps good quality picture no buffering at all, and this saves your download limit, I'm very impressed with FilmOn HDi, good one Wiaah.

They are c. 220GBP.. for a Humax twin tuner with hard rive, and 25 less for the Sagem equiv.. I ADORE the Humax one.. no returns in two years.. GREAT tuner..

I have no experience of the Sagem one, yet

You can get none recording HD boxes for under 100GBP - but living in CY that 2 hours ahead means you need to record the stuff on here after 9pm and then you can watch it the next day and 'miss out' on CBBC ;)

for another 100 pounds i can buy a new laptop and then watch filmon.com for free on my new laptop that would be brought from the uk for me instead of a freesat hd box.

mark.if you get free calls on your landline.please call me and keep the fone open for 59 mins.listen to filmon not buffering in TRNC, so if it is buffering in your home in the uk.your internet system must not be up to much. the number to dial. 01617001280. the caqll will be free to my number,as it is a uk landline.

let me know if your calling. il turn on the fone .

I couldn't believe it but it also includes 2 xxx rated channels, on any other provider like Fox etc you would have to pay extra to watch them, why didn't you let us know about this software before, been missing out.

Hi ZC,

Where can you get a 200 GBP latop that will show TV in HD ?.. Now 350 and you'd be nearer the mark..

Phoning - what does that prove ? ;)

I can do better than that.. I can call you on SKYPE and you can view what I see on my pc.. you'll see the buffering as well as hearing it . Then if you'll show me yours.;).. This is a great feature of SKYPE..

Then if you've got time you can see how little bandwidth the slingbox uses and all the channels available that you don't get with filmon..

Let's agree some time on Sunday

My you ARE impatient, ZC .. !

I offered Sunday, for SKYPE.. can't a guy go have his supper with his missus in 'peace' ? [ today is only Thursday...

Even at 320 GBP you'll be hard pushed to find a DECENT laptop with HDMI out and you CERTAINLY won't get real full HD resolution on a 16:9 1080 dpi big screen from filmon...it might look OK on a 15.6 " screen but don't blow it to 32" or more and expect it to look better than ITV HD !

A bit like StGeorges quest for free for nothing it seems that all is not rosy with Filmon - as it's GC owner 'Mr David' is being used for breach of copyright and his website [ http://www.alkidavid.com/] just got pulled..

Sunday morning 8.30 am UK time ok ?

BTW, once you have an HD box, you'd have to buy a dish, and THEN your viewing would be FREE.. but it much higher quality and reliable..

Sling is many for those who CAN'T have a dish / live beyond the footprint [ where it is not possible to SEE the service via satellite] / on the move alot or are fabulously rich yachties...

ZC, can't you afford a bleeding dish ?;)

when you connect the HDMI to the TV you use the volume from the TV, the HDMI gives you picture and sound.

hmmm. mine does not, thats strange, ahh, maybe because ive got the external speakers connected?

I have dolby home theater on the laptop also, but in a long room and connected to the tv,it just is not quite loud enough.

I shall try it with the speakers unplugged next time.

I have just had a look and it is a 15pin VGA cable that i would need to connect laptop to TV, do you know if the same applies and it would work both the picture and sound ?

Thanks

you have a S-Video Output, this only gives you a picture,

With S-Video on both TV and laptop, connecting a laptop to a TV is a simple matter of a single S-Video cable. If your laptop has a great sound system, you won’t need audio cables, but for better quality you’ll also want audio cables. you will need to plug them into your speaker output on your laptop and connect to your TV, that means you have the 15 pin video output cable and also the RCA cable, not a hard job to do but I would get a new laptop because you would have the HDMI and only one cable, Hope this helps.

I have tried to watch BBC i player from my laptop on the TV using a HDMI cable. Picture perfect but no audio. I was advised to conect a 3.5mm plug on laptop audio socket to the audio RCA sockets on the TV to get audio. unless someone knows differently.

no you get picture and sound from the HDMI, just turn up the volume on the TV and you should be right, you may have some settings in your laptop to tweak but you will get sound, I have it working every day, in my TV remote I press input and scroll along until I get to the HDMI it will be lit up where all the other HDMIs will be greyed out, I have 3 HDMIs on my TV as soon as I press ok the TV changes to the HDMI channel and up comes the laptop on the screen of the TV, with picture and sound , thats what the HDMI was made for to get sound and Picture, instead of using the old S-Video Output.

The HDMI port, one-half the size of the DVI port, is also rectangular with 19 pins. It provides digital audio in addition to digital video, despite it’s smaller size, for a complete TV to laptop connection. These ports are found on new HDTVs, and sometimes there are two or more. TVs with HDMI ports are the only ones that do not require additional audio cables

ZC, a GOOD laptop with HDMI out and a GOOD TV should allow the audio to be received by the TV - thus the volume being used..

Don't fill up that container with *your* laptops until you've tried mine ;)

cooper: it sounds like you were describing a VGA port like you'd plug most CRT computer monitors into..

http://www.google.co.uk/search?aq=f&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=vga+port

aussie-J : last time I looked S-Video had six pins.. - the sockets having six female receptors..

http://www.cabling4less.co.uk/category.php?cat_id=209&gclid=CIeQ25Cpq6UCFUpO4QodrGOuXQ

A DVI port is MUCH bigger than a HDMI - you are describing a micro-DVI http://www.google.co.uk/search?aq=f&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=DVI+port

Quarmby: I don't know why it isn't working - could be the laptop or TV config.. lack of functionality of one or other :(

Lastly, the quality of many flat screens displaying PC output can be 'wanting' - although I' go for a decent plasma for TV, LCD better for PC

ZC, once again... I'll give you my undivided attention on Sunday am.. now I'm going to watch a recording of Apprentice.. my wife will watch - me watching to see if I pay too much attention to Liz..

I find this 'interesting' as she has watched the Bourne trilogy - she likes Matt Damon - many times :D

I said the HDMI port was one-half the size of the DVI port and is also rectangular with 19 pins, you should read the post before you make a comment, and my mistake was thinking about the S-Video and and not the VGA cable, can't remember the last time anyone used this type of port.

I can not only read, but I'll requote you..msg 89

>>The HDMI port, one-half the size of the DVI port<< you wrote that - yes - so nought wrong with *my* reading ..

Actually, we use the S-Video port a lot - as give superior output on Slingbox classics over Scart.

ZC re 93

>>Why is a sunday important? <<

As to whether the internet is used more /less - I think less as most businesses are 'sleeping' ..

I have TIME on Sunday, ZC -less folk call, and we can give this a good 'test'.. if you wish.. nothing more 'involved' than that.

Dear ZC, sorry.. I wrote 'yup', earlier and hit send and then realised - just now - that it must have been too short to be accepted.

ZC, don't believe all the hype you read about investment of such sums - check the source of the story, first.. ;)

What kind of reply was that?

"not exactly a great advert.... it isn't 'free'" and "filmon isn't the most reliable for live tv.. although it is FREE"

Typical egotistical retort by you.............. Just cannot admit you have been wrong and FilmOn will work for FREE for lots of people on this Island.

BTW I posted msg 105/6 14 mins apart.. how come they only show as a minute ?

It is now 09.59 UK so it will be interesting to see what time shows..

Hope whatever you were doing was more 'interesting', Dave.. You made a 'big fuss' and I'm surprised you didn't 'show up' or even let me know you couldn't 'meet up' :(
