Dear Friends,

http://www.avaaz.org/en/tuna_at_risk_2/?vl

These magnificent species have been exploited to the brink of collapse -- and this summit could be our last chance to save them or they will disappear from our oceans forever.

Trawlers from various Mediterranean countries are continually cutting off the millenia used Tuna migration route(s), which means that very, very few are getting through to spawn and perpetuate their species.

Tuna, like salmon, sea trout, eels; and, yes, even the dear liitle Swallows and other migratory birds, have a fixed migration route 'programmed' into them by 'Mother Nature' - they cannot deviate from it.

Trawlers only need the most basic of electronic equipment to locate and disrupt the Tuna's progress.

We need to 'disrupt' these bandits' mission of mindless greed and desecration of this fish, whose survival is vital to the marine ecosystem/environment.

PLEASE take a moment to sign this petition!

Sincere thanks! -Tenakoutou -

LOvegod/Msg 2: 'oh grow up !'

Having a sense of social responsibility suggests 'maturity' - comments like yours suggest utter selfishness and quite probably a serious lack of sobriety.

Your avatar is certainly a misnomer!

Thanks everyone for your support!

I ought to mention that the text underneath the 'link' was of my own composition - rather amateurish, I confess, but I included it in order to convey the brief message of just how this 'free for all rape of the seas' is having such a detrimental effect on the immediate area surrounding where we, ourselves, are presently living.

Despite the derogatory comment in Msg 2, I sincerely believe that 'environmental protection' of both land and sea should be not just a communal responsibility, but an urgent priority.

Whether it's signing such a petition, or refraining from chucking a 'Coke' can out of the car window, we can all contribute to the 'health' of the environment in some small way.

P.S. Does anyone remember 'Kia Ora' orange juice in the UK? - 'Kia Ora' is Maori for 'Good Health!'

I have been saving Tuna for ages now and have got about 20 cans of it. Maybe I ought to throw it all back in the sea as you are starting to make me feel guilty.

Roy,

When this sort of marine conservation thing is mentioned, I can't help but think of the Peter Cook & Dudley Moore ramble about Whales.

Sorry, mate. I know your heart's in the right place but I also know you have a wicked Kiwi sense of humour.

Thanks again for your thoughtfulness, all you good people!

For those that are unfamiliar with Tuna catching/netting methods, do you know how many cetaceans [porpoises & dolphins] die with almost every Tuna catch? These deaths are supposed to be recorded - they are 'fiddled' so that Tuna weight quotas can be 'legally' met.

There's plenty of very disturbing and distressing websites on the Internet about it all.
