| Could not get link to work The European Commission is reported to have proposed opening two chapters in Turkey’s EU accession negotiations in exchange for the agreement that Ankara opens one of its ports and airspace to Cypriot shipping and aviation. A report on Cyprus state radio cited a Turkish television channel as reporting that the Commission promised that the energy and justice chapters would be opened – providing the port of Istanbul was opened to Cyprus shipping and airspace opened to Cypriot traffic by the first week in December. The report also stated that President Christofias will allow for Turkey negations to proceed unhindered, by not exercising his veto right. The Turkish government is reported to have accepted the proposals on the condition that international flights are allowed to fly into the occupied areas of Cyprus.
