Pls i have a problem i intend to buy a car from the south cyprus and register and use it here in the north. but i dont know what the tax and duties fees would look like.... pls advise me is it possible to use a south plated number here in the north and what fees must i pay to use d car?

I WOULDNT recommend you to do that.



If you'd be residing in TRNC,the law would not allow you to do that.There are some people doing that at their own risk.My neighbour (ex now,moved away)did that,got cought,paid 300 tl fine and instead of taking to south and leaving it there he carried on using it.Got cought again and this time the car was taken away.Cost him 3000 tl to take it back and drive to the board with a custom officer and leave it there not to be returned.Next time he gets cought he'll be deported.

Listen to the advice being given. If you live in the North and are caught using a South plated car here, you will be fined and have the car confiscated. You will then have to pay to have the car taken out of the customs compound and will be given the choice of paying to import the vehicle (if less than 5 yeras old) or be escorted to the border where you will have to sign a piece of paper stating that you will never bring the vehicle in to the North again. I have been there and got the t-shirt !! Buy a car here in the North it is much less hassle.

Please buy a car this side, we have a friend who drove his audi TT from Uk via turkey and on to south side from here. Its on UK plates cherished number. He was caught south side a few weeks ago as his time there for not taxing had expired.Fined something like 4500 euros. brought the car back this side to try to re register and to do that it will cost 5700 pounds. The two together is more than book value, now he is taking it back to uk to sell.

Cars are expensive here but hold their value well. Look for a good second hand buy, you will not lose much when you sell it on, unlike the UK.
