Good for them. All aspects of the "Cyprus Problem" and Turkey/ROC relationships should be open to discussion and negotiation in the context of the current "unification" talks.

The fact is the EU is like a two headed coin, heads, the GC's win, tales, Turkey and the TC's lose. I hope Gul made that French arse very uncomfortable.

Troodo re msg 6 http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/50107.asp msg 2/ 8 covers it.. Ball is firmly in TR's court... they shouldn't have signed an agreement re ALL EU countries having the rights they are now retrospectively trying to 'negotiate' ( included RoC)

There wasn't an agreement, it was a promise that was bolloxed as soon as the GC's set foot in Brussells and exercised their right to veto.

I would think direct flites will be available early next year, whether there is settlement, no settlement, or a partial settlement. Why? - because there is no obvious good legal reason why they shouldn't start up. One good reason why they SHOULD start up is that everyone in the EU is fed up with the GCs. Geoff Famagusta City.

I remember being told on our first visit in 1989 that there would definitely be direct flights next year (1990)! And that 'they' were due to reopen the International Airport in Lefkoşa too.

In the 1970s the Island eagerly awaited the first approved, cheap, Freddie Laker flight. As you can imagine the Unions here made certain only Greek Cypriot airlines could utilize Larnaca and then Pathos. My mother in law sat in tears when I left her at Larnaca airport. I wonder if she is still there ?
