We went here for a meal, have been going for years. It was a Friday night, we were there from 7.15 to 9.15 and not another soul came in.

We could not believe it. Is there something we should know?

Actually, one of our party of 6 (vegetarian) had an appalling meal - veggie pasta, cold, frozen veg, dry pasta and a layer on top of some sort of cheese sauce without the cheese (see wallpaper paste) when we complained about the quality of the meal, they were very long faced, no apology was given and they told us that they would not charge for that meal. When the bill came they charged 20tl anyway - said that was the cost of the meze starter. The pasta meal in the menu was 20 lire including the veggie pasta.

Perhaps we have been going so long that they have got complacent.

Anyone else know whats gone wrong here?

Hi Sue - we went there last year having had the restaurant highly recommended by many people. We, too were very disappointed. The meal wasn't bad enough to complain about, to be honest, but it was below average to say the least, especially after all we'd heard about the place.

Service was slow and waiting staff miserable.

We were very disappointed and didn't go back.

Ah, this is so sad, Arif and his daughter do a wonderful job, we have had some lovely evenings there.

I think maybe the problem could be that they have no entertainment there. After eating such a huge meal,

I personally like to have a dance afterwards to lose some of the calories.

We've probably eaten at least ten times and each time has been excellent.

flowerfairy - I don't think the lack of entertainment is the problem here...

Always found it to be great value for the money. Had lots of friends there and we all like the place as it is with the staff curteous and quick. No problems.

Yes, we also h ave been going there for years, taking lots of friends and introducing dozens more to the place, but I did not expect such frostiness over what was a genuine complaint, politely given. I thought loyalty counted for something but I was wrong, at the end of the day, we were just 'punters'.

The other thing I did not say before was that six weeks ago we also went there with some friends - 3 of us, our bill came to 85lire and I gave the waiter a 100lire note. We were halfway home before my friends said, that waiter never brought your change. We did wait a long time after paying the bill and then we forgot. I always leave a tip but I would like my change so that I can decide how much to leave.

I think I will not go again - I also like Arif, I liked the daughter also but not after the way she treated me, kissing me on greeting and then being so dismissive when I had the nerve to complain.

Ah well, live and learn eh?

Message 2 - helpful answer Andrew

Why not just say where it is for the people who don't know the area?

I agree with your comments, we took a party of 8 after being highly recommended by some friends. The mezze was disappointing to say the least.......bland and mainly veggie type food and the main courses were downright awful. We left still feeling hungry and before anyone asks, no we did not complain as Arif and his daughter are friends of the people that suggested that we eat there, we paid the bill and left and will not be returning. Shame really as we had heard such good reports from other people, lets hope they resolve whatever problems they must be having, as l would hate to see their business fail, which at this time of year could be quite easy.

Speak as you find!

We took our visitors there in October, party of six. Couldn't have had better food or service. We will definitely take our next visitors there again. We have to starve ourselves all day because the meals fill us up to bursting.

No relation or friends of the owners, just satisfied customers!

We have never had a bad experience in Tervetuloa, although we only go there two to three times a year. Arif and the lovely Afet have always been the perfect hosts and the food has always been excellent and good value for money. I hear these stories from time to time, about restaurants, but seem to find my own experience to be different. I think all restaurants here that remain open for business in all seasons should be commended for their staying power, God knows how they manage with the levels of business they do in the Winter months.

The food should be better in the winter on the basis that with fewer customers the meat has longer to 'mature' in the fridge negating any toughness when cooked!

I have to say that we love the place and have never had a bad night there. Whenever we have visitors we always take them there because we think of it is as a safe bet and our guests have always been impressed with the food and hospitality. Different parties of between 4 and 10 with a wide variety of selections from the menu have always said how much they enjoyed it. I know I will be going back.
