Would someone be kind enough to advise me if I can stay in TRNC for longer than 90days if I cross over to the South and return? Is this generally accepted as being "Out of the Country?"

Been over a couple of times my wife got a new 90 day tourist visa and I got 60 days. I pointed this out and was very ungratiously given 90 days . Always check. If you overstay the consequences are expensive. 1200 YTL I heard someone had to pay.

The official answer is NO!!! But as Nigel says it is at the whim of the officers on duty. The cost of over staying welcome is about 70 tl per day which must be paid on exiting the country. If you do not pay and return at some point in the future the fine is doubled!!!!!!

Poppy I believe you can go to the police station and ask for an extension. Worth a try. I've been to the South and usually I get another stamp but only up to the date of my original 90 day entry stamp.

I´m new here. Could you tell me if this rule applies to the whole year (ie you can only be there 90 days in one year) or does it mean 90 days on one visit (eg can you say come for 90 days in Winter and then 90 days in Summer... just as an example). Thank you

Hi ainhoa When you enter the country as a tourist you are usually given a 90 day visa. You can be here for longer than 90 days a year but when the visa runs out you must leave the country and return in order for the visa to be renewed. Unfortunately you are not always automatically given 90 days. If you have a property here then you can apply for temporary residency which lasts for 12 months. You have to have blood tests and prove you have the means to support yourself (amongst other things) in order to get temporary residency. Jo
