The Totalitarian Legislative State is coming out of the closet, having already nobbled the Judiciary, buggered the economy, and given over the Executive to the Army! Richard

If it's true then the TC gov have bigger balls than the UK gov. Unfortunately it just means many more people will be working in the black market.

Does this include Turkish and Kurdish mainlanders, many who have established long term businesses here? Is this a ploy to force them to leave? Surely there must be exemptions for mainlander established businesses - otherwise the whole economy would collapse. Not that that would worry the 'TC Rich Club'!

Laptamike; "If it's true then the TC gov have bigger balls than the UK gov" Perhaps it is better to say,'basic human rights' do exist in uk,due to the BASIC fact that uk is a recognised country to the least in which,if TRNC was recognised it'd have existed here in TRNC as well. .........honest.........it's just simple maths! and........everyone'd have lived happiely (?) ever after...........or would they ????

turkish cypriots do not need work permits and this has alway be a case that the employment office have always asked that you fill places of employment with local turkish cyps. A lot of the hotel restaurant and other establishments will or would not survive without turkish so be interesting to see. The same happened several years agowhen they said only turkish cypriots could driv taxi and piublic service vehicles and that never happened

The message came from a friend (English) who is about to re-new his work permit. His accountant told him. Not enough info at this point to be able to answer all the questions...sorry.May hear something in the Cyprus To-day on Saturday??? or not,as we always seem to be the last to know .I hope no-one leaves a country to find work here(eg Students during holidays) or they could be up the creek without a paddle so to speak.

rosylee its always been there as my accountant told me the same several years ago and I was also informed when I saw the head man at the work permit ofice. they are wanting positions to be filled by local turkish cypriots and then if not then they can be filled by others. they may have tightened up recently but I think most of the big hotels and casinos and business' would not cope without the other staff. Be interesting to see what they are actually saying but dont think it will be no more work permits being issued as the country will come to a standstill

Yorg mate, the UK might have human rights but look at all the micarriages of justice in the name of human rights. Rapists getting 1 year, murderers out in 5 years, yobs getting a few hours community service etc etc. My friends son who is a soldier got bottled in the face on New Years Eve by a yob for no reason apart from the yob being jealous of him being a soldier. The yob only got a few hours community service. (He does need to watch his back though now, the Manchester Mafia (Quality Street Gang) are out to get him)

Load of rubbish as I have been to the office today with my friend for his work permit, and there was nobody being turned down or turned away, and my friend had his renewed for 2 years this time. Maybe your accountant is trying to tell you something. As already mentioned TC do not need permits so must be mistaken.

My Cyprus Today page 5 stated workers could extend or renew work permits and its stopped accepting pre permission applications. I personally think accountants for the money they charge should get the facts right but then again this island is Chinese whispers and you can’t really blame them. Probably this is why they are so expensive they have to cover for 100 trips to the government departments. Until anyone personally sees something through from start to finish they can only really state ‘This is how it was for me’ as guaranteed the next person something else will be required or it will be different!

Actually TRNC nationals never apply for anything. They are after Govt Job where they can earn heavy money with lots and lots of benefits. Less work more money. This is how they think. You hardly see any Cypriot working for another Cypriot at any position. In 1 week time they will be introducing news laws for new applicants..nothing else.

Not only politics but also Govt Depts. People just blaming others. Laziness.Nothing else. No one wants to work. But yeah they want more and more money to spend during weekends in the most expensive hotels, restaurants or casinos. rubbish. And then they blame foreigners for taking their jobs. I think they must be thankful at least foreigners working for them and for their Country. Cleaning up their mess for almost free.peanuts

rosylee just think theat the posting was a little bit misleading in that you said only turkish cys couls have the work permits which as we know they dont need. there has always been a problem depending on the work permit offices interpretation on certain applications and the government are supposedly legistlating to give correct guidlines!! its not foreigners cant get work permits as was implied in the first posting and seems to be clarified in cyprus today so no the accountant just either gave information that was either taken the wrong way or he didnt understand himself as has been the case many time with my own accountant. personally its best to do all the paperwork yourself get to the right people and its cheaper and its from the horses mouth so to speak .

Thank You one and all.My friend did not give a full explanation(it was in an abbreviated text) but he was "close".I did read the article in the paper-which did explain MUCH better.I always feel that what ever we do today is not set in concrete and wonder just what will change daily/monthly/yearly.It just adds to the inability to put down "roots" and defend the Island when I hear it being slated.SAD.
