Surely the weather in the UK and Northern Europe is an indication of climate change... Last night it was as cold as -15 in some parts of the country. I can't remember it ever being that cold, and this is the second year on the bounce as it was brass monkeys last year too.. Glad i live over here!

I can remember it being like that in the 60s and 70s if not every year, every other! And in Germany it was normal then.

Precisely WS. This is back to normal winters. I recall the weather scientists a few years back saying we would get mild wet winters in the UK from now. Yet when we have cold winters it is also down to man made carbon emissions. They would make good gamblers as the coin has heads on both sides. The gulf stream may well be moving or even dissipating but the causation of this could well be due to nature and cycles and patterns of movement in the oceans.

msge 1 Who knows if Global warming is here. There are so many conflicting arguments. One argument I read today, was that Oxfam are using global warming as a way to increase their funding. They say that 21,000 deaths in 2010 were caused by weather disasters which were due to global warming (21,000 in itself is a tragedy), however each year less and less people are dying from weather disasters. 21, 000 is less than 35,000 people which was the average death rate for the last nine years, and it is considerably lower than the average death rate of 168,000 five decades ago. Nevertheless, 201O is still on track to be the second warmest year on record since they began in 1850. From what I understand, the land and air temperature is not so significant, it is the water temperature which is the biggest indicator of global warming. Small but steady incremental increases in temperature, may not seem an issue, but they may cause balancing feedback loops to fail. That would

No, borodave, Global Warming is a scam supported by the likes of the European rapporteur John (sorry, touching forlock) Lord Prescott. He's at an important conference on the subject - where? - Cancun, along with 22,000 other delegates, delegate helpers and the media. He's already saying that agreements can't be made as none of the country leaders are attending and that a voluntary framework should be the target. Why, I ask myself naively, couldn't they have held a video conference on the subject? If they believe in the principle of reducing carbon emissions wouldn't this be the way to do it?

even scientist from every corner of the globe cant agree on climate change , some say its mankind with carbon emissions some say the earth as suffered highs and lows in temperature differentials scince the first life evolved on out planet . i tend to agree with the latter , there was no carbon emission when the last ice age happend . andy

The ice sheets melting in the Arctic are affecting the temperature and the water patterns of the North Atlantic, this in turn is filtering through to more Southerly parts of the Altlantic Ocean. The past warm(ish) winters in the UK were caused by the Gulf stream effect i.e. warmer seas flowing in our direction keeping the UK climate artificially mild. If this is indeed changing, then UK winter weather will be more like that experienced in Norway and Sweden, which could be what is happening now. So global warming may be the cause of colder winters for the UK. Anyway, it's still blooming warm here in Cyprus, unbelievable for the beginning of December. It's forecast to be 28 degs C in Lefkosa tomorrow.

Weather has always changed Global Warming is a diversionary tactic to take peoples mind off SUSTAINABILITY - no one will ever know for sure if global warming is a true long term trend (like the new ice age tthat was promissed a couplem of decades ago), and if it is, what we can realy do about it. The real problem is the global population is likely to increase from 7 billion now to 9 billion in 30 years, and the Chinese and Indians are starting to use western levels of resources - add the two together and we're stuffed !
