Went to the Police Station in Girne tahis morning. Went early, thinking I would be clever and avoid the long wait that has been posted on here. Got there at around 7.15am. Some kind, thoughtful soul had pinned a piece of copy paper to the wall and as people arrived they were duly signing there names on the piece of copy paper. I was number 9, not bad I thought, shouldn't take too long. At 8.30am the nice policeman on duty opened the door to the office. He had a wad of numbered tickets in his hand. Everybody clamoured forward to get one. Somebody pointed out to the policeman that there was a list indicating the order in which people had arrived. Whereupon the policeman said 'not our list, we don't care about list' he called everyone outside. He was like the pied piper with everyone following him. Once outside he started handing out the numbers at random. First and Tallest come first served. From being number 9 on the 'list' I luckily managed to get to a number in

the 20's. There was general dismay when it was discovered that people who had just arrived were now in fact at the top of the queue. 3.5 hours I emerged triumphant with my slip of paper to go for my blood test. All this to look forward to again once I get the blood test done..... Oh Joy!

Frank. I had exactly the same last Monday week. I got there 6.45am and was number 4 on the list. Same thing happened only would not call him a NICE policeman!! Very abrupt and loud-mouthed. Same rigmarole all followed him outside and little me got No 10 which I suppose is better than you did. However, what is the point of getting there early. We had a saviour in our queue, a turkish (I think) gentleman who went in and took the screwed up list from the so called policeman and proceeded to make sure everyone had the right number. We took the policeman`s name and do intend complaining.

I'm so pleased we go to Gazimagusa police station, no queue, nice friendly, English speaking policeman allocated to do residency and even told where the cheapest place is to go for the blood test. Had the test done and went straight back - again no queue, Akat filled in official paperwork and told us to go to Lefkosa in 10 - 14 days. Just keeping our firngers crossed it doesn't all go horribly wrong and take hours at Lefkosa. Still, we'll go armed with reading material, if we can tear ourselves away from a perfect opportunity of enforced people watching

My partner had exactly the same experience this week at Girne, twice! And unfortunately there has got to be a third time. Seems no system at all. Why is the piece of paper there in the first place. Any answers?

I used Iskele Police Station in August, couldn't do enough to help. No waiting and no problems. There are real benefits to living on this side of the Island. Not to mention the lovely folk in YeniErenkoy and Dipkarpaz.

Can you go to any police station or does it have to be the nearest to where you live?

Would it not be so simple to have a ticket machine, so one could just get a ticket on a first come basis? But perhaps it would take years of inter departmental talks to come to this conclusion! Meanwhile.....

Follydog, I think it depends on which side of the island you're on. As we come under the Magusa area that's where we go to start our residency process. It maybe worthwhile checking out if you can go to any police station before setting out this way as it's a bit of a trek for you.

I still don't understand why we are having these problems at the police station when we never used to.

I believe you have to go to the main police station of the district you live in so from Jashan's outside of Bahceli all residents have to go to Girne, if you live 5 meters further on from Jashan's, you can go to Fama'G.
