can you move your water meter yourself or does council have to do it. mine and three other houses water hose trails across a house which has been empty but now being refurbed the main stops at this house. my garden is 5 meters away and need them moved that distance. have already had to stop the builder stealing water for construction within a few days of starting work. guess the council will be first port of call any one else had problems like this

You are definitely not allowed to move it without Belidiye permission first.

Break the seal and you break the law, not that they would notice if you stuck it back on. I am sure if you cut the pipe either side of the meter and then joined it again once it had been relocated, they could not say anything, as its not the belediye that decides where the meters are, but where the builder puts the pipes.

It would pay to extract the water meter if away for long periods of time avoiding the Belediyesi monthly charge for services you're not using. I'm sure the water meter man wouldn't notice it's reinstatement on return and then bill accordingly. Richard

do not tamper with the water meter in any way at all. do not cut any pipes leading to the water meter . if you need the water meter removed in any way at all call the belediye and it will be moved for you . any tampering at all with the meter will lead to prosecution and a fine . you have been warned

If returning to the UK ( Or leaving the Island) for any length of time. Get the Belidere to REMOVE your meter and reinstate it on your return. At MINIMAL COST and it stops other people from using your water and leaving you to pay for it! On my return from a three month absence, my bill was 980 ytl ,which I refused to pay as I only had a kettle ! (No shower, bath pool etc. at the time!) My neighbours gardener had broken a lock on an outside tap, to water their garden and left it running . Fortunately another observant neighbour, ( a local) saw what had happened and turned the tap off. The beledere removed my meter for refusing to pay the bill, EVEN THOUGH I PROVED TO THEM THAT I HAD BEEN OUT OF THE COUNTRY, so I now use my well which has copious quantities of water throughout the year,
