Hi Jakki,

We stayed at the Malpas for 3 days in July whilst getting the furnture into our house. You have no need to worry. We found everything to be excellent. The rooms, food and service were all good and the newly opened beach club ewas superb. We have stayed at the Dome a few times, Jasmine Court and Acapulco and Malpas is a much better hotel than all of these.

Thanks for the reviews - according to the person who posted a review on Trip Advisor the hotel is famous for holding weddings (many) which, of course, arevery noisy that person also mentioned about the drinks being very expensive, I'm not surprised though drinks are usually expensive in hotels.

I'd be getting the police (if I thought it would make any difference).

Friends stayed there a couple of weeks ago. Breakfast very good, didnt have evening meal there but drinks were expensive as they would be in any 5 star hotel. Rooms very comfortable and views amazing. Have a good time.

hi jakki,

stayed at the malpas in march, we stayed in the honeymoon suite although been married far to long to justify picking that room! it was beautiful as was everything at the hotel, i would definetly recommend it, it is trully a 5 star hotel hence the price of the drinks (bring a bottle opener and buy a bottle of wine at the supermarket, worked for me)

Stayed there in July half board. Rooms were great, very comfortable. Food was a good but the drinks were expensive. Cocktail menu was not too good either, just had martini style drinks. Had a great massage downstairs in the spa and was cheap conpaired to Mercure and Merit hotels. Didnt use the beach resort, looks very relaxing though.

Malpas is lovely in many ways but the beds are rock hard, ok if thats what you want. I always stay in the Dome, central girne and altho a little tired beds lovely and staff are truly wonderful, nothing is too much trouble for them and they make it like home from home, we have stayed there 9 times in the last 12 months...I would always recommend.

Ones to avoid...The Ship...attracts the lower end of the market...rough types.

ps , your insinuations are not appreciated , keep them to yourself please ,-----------moderator

deecyprus.

I dont think you are being very fair to the Ship.

I have never stayed there so cannot comment, but I know plenty that have and have been very happy with everything that the Ship provides.

Dee

Your posting has just restored the faith in my decision to book the Dome for myself & mother arriving for the first time on Thursday. There has been some particularly critical reports recently (likening it to Fawlty Towers etc). I selected it because of it's central position as mother has limited mobility - although it doesn't stop her moving her arm up & down with a glass!!

Thinking of booking the Malpas in Sept, is there a fridge in the hotel room so you can take your own drink or is it a mini bar option only?

Is the Malpas better for evening entertainment than the Acapulco ?

hi happy feet

i stayed in the malpas last sept and it was fantastic bed , food , pool was all good the only gripe i had was one evening i had been to the shops whilst i was out and about so i picked up some bottles of water for our trip out the next day on arrival to the hotel i was briskfully ordered into the managers office and had the drinks taken off me.

it was a bit dissapointing considering it was only water and had explained what it was for as i was going to chill it over night in the room fridge but instead it was taken off us untill i left the next day, i mean what did they think i was going to do sit in all night and drink water instead of having a few at the bar.

due to the attitude of them on this event i would not be going back as i was made to look as if i was smuggling in something a lot worse in front of a concergie full of holiday makers bit annoying but a lovley hotel dont let this put you off.

Message 22 - The Malpas is not the only hotel that does this, apparently. There was a thread on here a while ago talking about the same thing - problem is, I can't remember the name - sorry!!!!!

Hi Deecyprus Your comments about the Ship Inn are not very nice,we have stopped at various hotels in North Cyprus over the past two years, one of them was the Ship and the people we met their were not rough and indeed were not from the lower end of the market. We could not fault the Ship Inn it was clean, the food excellent and the staff were pleasant. TONY.

Chancing bunch of crooks. It's theft to take property from someone without their consent. Of course if there had been a rule about this they could have made guests leave - but then they wouldn't get their money from them!

We stay at the Pia Bella and have always found the price of drinks very reasonable and of good measure, Ali the owner knows by doing this he will keep his customers happy and they will not leave the Hotel in the evening, you get a good atmosphere because everyone gets to know one another.

I started this thread last year and obviously stated at The Malpas last September.

Firstly, we were never searched and the staff were very friendly.

Plus : breakfast very good - breach bar - very good!!

Minus : the walls are not sound proof, we could hear the man next door having a wee!! When we stayed they held Salsa Nights that went onto 4.00am. We had a standard roof so cannot comment on posh rooms.

These are some examples of the prices of drinks at the Malpas: All beer 10tl, Gin and Tonic 15tl, Baileys 15tl, glass of wine 10tl, Raki 10tl, soft drinks 7tl, coffee 6tl, big bottle of water 5tl. I wouldn't call this expensive for a 5-star hotel. During happy hours, 17.00-19.00 and 21.00-23.00, all drinks are 25% off in the Jazz Bar.

you could proberley email them and ask what is on during the date you would like to go or ask the tour operator.
